Namaste!
A huge part of my practice right now (and probably for the rest of this lifetime) is about creating balance: Time for myself and time with friends; a daily rhythm that includes regular meals and good sleep; and the big one-- (*sigh*) balance between work and play.
This month, I was planning to write about svadhyaya. In a move towards balance-- a wee bit of time off this evening, I will instead share the far more eloquent words of Rolf Gates from my recommended read, "Meditations from the Mat."
"Like the spokes of a wheel leading back to the hub, the practices of yoga bring us back to the self. Svadhyaya is self-study, the work we do in an effort to know the divinity that is at our core. But self-study does not take place only behind a desk or in a quiet room; our daily lives are rich with opportunities for practice and discovery. As we move through our days we can either react out of past conditioning or pause and affirm our higher selves. We can allow the power of the universe to flow through us in any given moment on any given day."
I couldn't have said it better myself. So I shall repeat: "We can allow the power of the universe to flow through us in any given moment on any given day."
Peace,
Jill

Fine-tune your practice
Vinyasa flow gets the body moving, the juices flowing and the heart open. And we love it! But have you ever been in a class (or practicing at home) and wondered if you were doing the pose properly? Does working in certain postures make your back/hip/shoulder/wrist hurt and you need an alternative?
Spend an afternoon with Jill, working on proper alignment in asana for a safer, more enjoyable Vinyasa practice. The workshop includes discussion, Q&A, hands-on, and partner work. This attention to detail will help you on the mat in the studio and at home.
The workshop is appropriate for anyone with at least six months of regular, consistent yoga practice. Bring your questions, a notebook and a willingness to get into the nitty-gritty of Warrior poses, Down Dog, Plank, Chaturanga, closing sequence and more! Join us from 1:00 to 4:00 pm, Saturday, May 3. |

Favorite books from your favorite instructors
We always feel better about reading a new book when it comes via a recommendation from a trusted source. And who better to give you the inside skinny on the best yoga books than our own blue lotus yoginis! Check out these books, which are always in stock in the Boo-tique.
Carrington
"Awakening the Buddha Within" by Lama Surya Das This is a book that truly "Awakened" me to the possibility of my own divine presence. This book is for those searching for a deeper understanding of Buddhism and how to bring its beautiful principles into your everyday life. Much like Dorothy says, "the next time I go searching for my heart's desire, I won't go any further than my own backyard."
Alison "After the Ecstasy, the Laundry" by Jack Kornfield "The Gift" by Hafiz I like a book that I can open anywhere, and read for 5 minutes or 30 minutes, and come away with something to think about-- or just a relief from my own mind. Both of these are just that.
Yvonne
"Be Here Now" by Ram Das
The title says it all, but in essence, a lovely reminder in this world of multi-tasking to be HERE now.
Dominique
"True Meditation" by Adyashanti
Part one of this book, 'Allow Everything To Be As It Is.' Mmm, yes...
