Neighborhood News creates new dimension of storytelling Several Detroit youth ages 11-19 recently auditioned for the new KidSpeak Neighborhood News. The program hopes to fill a void in Detroit neighborhood coverage while also connecting with some of the city's younger residents.Read more. Video: College will be goal at new DEPSA high school The Michigan Future Schools initiative aims to open 35 new high-performing high schools by 2020. A new DEPSA high school will open this fall, and the school will push college, college, college. Watch our featured video. Resources available for 2010 Census The Foundation is working in collaboration with City Connect, Prevention Network, Vanguard and the City of Detroit to get an accurate count for the 2010 Census. Local organizations are prepared to assist in this effort, ensuring everyone is counted. Read more. Summit looks at giving youth employment opportunities Creating opportunities for youth employment while engaging and cultivating Detroit's future workforce is the focus of the first-ever Youth Employment Summit on March 1. Goss honored at Judge Damon Keith's 23rd Annual Soul Food Luncheon Skillman Foundation President & CEO Carol Goss was honored at the 23rd annual Soul Food luncheon last week for her work to improve educational opportunities for Detroit's children. Read more. Goss part of 'Reimagining Detroit' conversation Vibrant neighborhoods and strong schools are part of Skillman Foundation President & CEO Carol Goss' vision for Detroit. Goss was recently part of a panel discussion hosted by TIME Inc. and the Brookings Institution, titled "Reimagining Detroit: Making Washington a Partner in Detroit's Next Economy." Read more. Community forum focuses on returning home Raphael Johnson, a Detroiter who was formerly incarcerated and is now an author, businessman and motivational speaker, will be the keynote speaker at the Returning Citizens Forum in the Osborn community from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday. The forum, which is sponsored by the Community Foundation for Southeastern Michigan, The Skillman Foundation, the Kresge Foundation and Matrix Human Services, will include workshops on housing, job readiness, family reunification and staying home.
