Foundation news and highlights

Neighborhood education meetings begin tonight

The Skillman Foundation wants Good Schools for all Detroit kids. That's what we've also heard from Detroiters involved in the Foundation's Good Neighborhoods work the past three years.

Beginning tonight, the Foundation is holding a series of neighborhood meetings on how to fix Detroit schools. The meetings are targeted at residents of the Cody/Rouge, Brightmoor, Northend, Osborn, Chadsey/Condon and Vernor neighborhoods, but anyone may attend.

Join us tonight to hear strategies for preparing kids to succeed in high school, graduate from college and lead productive lives as adults. The meeting is from 6-8:30 p.m. at the Doubletree Hotel, 5801 Southfield Freeway, Detroit 48228. Free dinner and child care will be provided.

Good Neighborhoods governance meeting is Saturday

Good Neighborhoods residents are invited to attend the Foundation's second community governance kickoff meeting on Saturday.

During the meeting, we'll be defining the purpose and process, sharing research from other communities, lifting up findings from the community listening project and discussing key governance issues.

The meeting will take place from 8:30 a.m.-noon Saturday at Martin Luther King High School, 3200 E. Lafayette, Detroit. For more information, please click here.
