Zach Johnson "caddy's for a cure," then WINS twice!
Caddy For A Cure achieved yet another "win" in many ways when Zach Johnson "caddy'd for a cure" at the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial. Not only did we have a "win" for charity, with Zach notching the tournament win, he became our 22nd player to win the week of, or the week after, their participation with Caddy For A Cure. This 'formula' has also applied to the weeks that they commit to Caddy For A Cure and our program.
This participation and win routine is becoming somewhat old hat for Zach, and he gladly agrees to "caddy for a cure" about any time we have a willing participant. He won his first green jacket the week before he was supposed to help us in 2007, so postponed his experience to later that year at TPC Sugarloaf for our "caddy's." You guessed it, he won that week as well.
You've read before about the joy of seeing father/son tandems "on the bag." Such a tandem team that ranks near the top of the list is Jim and Dale Greenwood of Dallas doing the honors for Zach and his all star great guy regular caddy, Damon Green. Zach showed them just why he's one of the best in the world, sealing it with his big win at the end of the week at beautiful Colonial.
All this great teamwork was complemented by having Birdies for the Brave wounded warrior Sgt. Jon Wheeler escorting the group. How honored and humbled we all were to see this brave man enjoy and experience a great day in professional golf.
Jim and Dale had one of the best days anyone could hope for in golf. Perfect weather, perfect course, perfect reason to come "caddy for a cure." Having their wives share in the experience made this day all the more special, indeed. Anyone in the world of golf knows, Zach Johnson may be one of the finest young men to come along in a long time. He is the real deal and then some...and he certainly added some new "fans" this day! |

Focus on Fanconi
This month's "Focus" is a little different than our normal feature due to the incredible experience we had in Moline at the John Deere Classic. There is a charity there called "Tudi's Tribe" that strikes a real chord with us as they focus on children and families in need, assisting however they can. As caddy's, we strive to be and fulfill a role of assistance to whatever the need, so Tudi's Tribe was a natural fit for us.
Bella and Maci were born with Fanconi and are doing extremely well, as of this writing. They are living a normal life and we continue to think of them and pray. We were thrilled, indeed, to have them as part of this great day in Moline. Jason Bohn could not have been more of a class act than he was this day with nine children, all suffering from various illness. It was a perfect example of what we are all about.

1st Champions Tour with Tom Lehman a Success!
Caddy For A Cure recently hit the road to Michigan and the Indianwood Country Club to start a new page in our expansion with the US Senior Open. It was the perfect formula to kick off the program on the Champions Tour with Charles Schwab Cup Champion, Tom Lehman! Tom has long been a friend to Caddy For A Cure, and when we saw him earlier this year in Boca Raton at the Allianz Championship, HE suggested we start out big with a MAJOR!
In doing so, we added a new "Three Peat" in Gerry Malzahn. Our good friend from Michigan, and a past "caddy" for Stuart Appleby and Mark Wilson, jumped all over the opportunity to caddy for Tom.
Joined by his good pal Dr. Charles Brummeler, these two had an absolute blast walking "inside the ropes" at a MAJOR golf championship. Indianwood was a marvelous track and a great walk indeed for the amateur caddy's.
We're kind of partial to caddy's if you couldn't tell already, and we are very partial to one Andy Martinez. Being Tom's longtime caddy, as well as former caddy for Johnny Miller when he was in his heyday, Andy has been around the block a few times. He is one of the nicest and coolest guys in golf, and he is a perfect match for Tom Lehman.
There are just not enough words to describe how really cool it is to partner with one of the best players in the world, and truly work with him. This practice round, just before a major, was all serious business. These fierce competitors are playing literally for a piece of golf history and could easily say "no" to an amateur caddy on the bag. Not Tom Lehman. He was all about assisting and as mentioned above, we almost notched win #23 as he finished behind Roger Chapman by a shot for second place.
Special thanks to Tom Lehman and Andy Martinez as well as Gerry Malzahn and Dr. Charles Brummeler and their wives for a sensational day!

Greetings!
It was a simple game of football toss that Sunday afternoon in Macon. What seemed to be a piece of cake, catching a football, turned into a life changer that none of us ever wants to experience. When Mac McNeal dropped several balls in a row, father Michael tried to give him some more instruction. Mac could not close his left hand properly and catch the ball. A call to the Doctor was made the next day - they thought it was a nerve. The MRI was scheduled and completed with results showing a brain tumor, a large one, and it was most likely malignant. On Wednesday, they were flying to St. Jude in Memphis for surgery on Thursday. Just a few days after a few dropped footballs, Mac was in brain surgery to remove a tangerine sized tumor. Enter former CFAC "caddy" and friend Gary Garrard. He had seen this family make countless trips to Memphis under less than stellar circumstances, and he wanted to change that memory. He saw we had Camilo Villegas available for the FedEx St. Jude Classic so he treated the McNeal's to a day they will never forget. The picture above pretty much says it all as to why we exist. A father with his arm around a precious son, a super world class golfer, and some great, life memories. When we explained to "Spiderman" what the story was, I will never forget those Colombian eyes staring into mine saying "I am going to treat him to a day he will never forget, don't worry!" Camilo Villegas is a star. Oh yeah, a very, very good player, multiple winner, but in the true sense of life - a star as he "get's it" when it comes to giving back. There are times, often, that we struggle to keep this initiative alive. The economy has slammed us hard, and it is expensive to keep it all going. When we see a day like this unfold in front of our very eyes, our "spark" is ignited and no lack of sponsorship or poor economical state will keep us from our mission of assisting. One look at this picture, and we "caddy for a cure!"
Sincerely,
Russ Holden PGA
