Camilo Villegas "Caddy's For A Cure" at The Barclays
Caddy For A Cure seems to say on a regular basis, "that was one cool day and it just cannot get much better than that in achieving what our vision was for this program." Then, we have yet another unforgettable day with one of the world's best. Case in point - Camilo Villegas.
Best friends Rebecca Haug and Janice Werz recently teamed up to caddy for a day for the Colombian superstar Villegas at The Barclays on a flawless day at Plainfield Country Club. What a thrill it was to watch these two wonderful friends get to see, up close and personal, some of the finest golf anyone could ever hope for.
Shot after shot, Camilo hit laser like approach shots clearly different from the ones the girls are used to seeing at their Cold Spring Country Club on Long Island. It is impressive indeed to stand next to one of the top players in the world, being privy to all the banter that goes on between a professional TOUR caddy and the player ( this case it was class guy Brennan Little), and to watch them make the decisions that pro's make.
Warning ladies, Camilo is not only one incredible player as we all know and have pointed out. He happens to be one of the most handsome and personable young men in all of golf. While husbands Albert and Ed walked along watching their wives with glee as they caddied, we are sure the VedaloHD sunglasses provided compliments of VedaloHD protected the girl's eyes from their husbands as they caught a glimpse or two of this physical specimen called Camilo!
Yes, it was a great day and great fun for all. But we never lose sight of the fact that the impetus behind this terrific program has much further reaching impact than just having the best day one could ever hope for on a golf course. Seeing the smiles of our caddy's and knowing the difference their participation is making in the lives of others makes it all the more worthwhile!

Focus on Fanconi
Occasionally we have the good fortune to coordinate meeting Fanconi anemia patients as we travel around the country and visit the events on the professional tours. When we do, we indeed treasure the opportunities.
In a previous Focus on Fanconi feature, we wrote about Michael Capone, a Philadelphia young man who was recently diagnosed with FA. We met up with him at the AT&T at Aronomink and introduced him to his first time on a golf course. Oh yeah, he happened to get to meet world superstars like Camilo Villegas, Jim Furyk, and one newly crowned professional champion, Rickie Fowler.
OK, the hat is cool and Rickie is cool, but to us what is over the top cool is that Michael was so thrilled with his experience at the golf course, he wants to play golf himself. It is such an honor to be able to introduce this brave young man to the game as he fights his fight against FA. Sure makes the efforts of each CFAC day worthwhile, indeed.

Michael, we hope that all your drives are straight, your wedges are crisp and soft, and every putt you look at goes in center cut. Now to get your strength up to come out and "caddy for a cure" for real, that would be awesome.

PGA Champions TOUR on board to Caddy For A Cure
When we started Caddy For A Cure nine years ago, we knew a bunch of things. We knew that caddying on the PGA TOUR was very cool and that people would pay for the opportunity to trade places for a day. We knew Fanconi anemia was lethal, and we knew that some how and some way, we wanted to help. We also knew that we were and are very privileged to live in a land as free as the United States and that to the many who do so much for us, we wanted to say "thanks." Through combining the things we knew, Caddy For A Cure was founded and today, we continue to grow on these principles and missions.
Upon seeing great friend Peter Jacobsen (AKA - Jake Trout) at the recent TOUR Championship, he asked why on earth we weren't doing the Champions TOUR? We inquired, they approved, and here we go. Your chance to caddy for a day for some of the true legends in the history of the game...Fred Couples, Tom Watson, Corey Pavin, and many, many more. Stay tuned for more information, but we are thrilled to announce that we now have a presence on the PGA TOUR, LPGA Tour, and Champions TOUR. We are serious about finding a cure for cancer and supporting our warriors!

Greetings!
We get a lot of phone calls inquiring about Caddy For A Cure. They are about sponsorships, gifts, donations, how to caddy, how to buy, who the charities are, and virtually everything under the sun. A large number of them are from people who want to be a caddy on the TOUR and they want to know how to do it. Looks pretty cool and a pretty good way to earn a living, they say.
The best one, though, was from a fellow who called, really not sure why, and found out that the people we try to attract actually caddy for a day for the player. "I don't caddy, I take a caddy!" was his response. While funny, it does exhibit the age old image and stereotype of caddies being a sordid crew with whom no one would really want to associate. Nothing could be further from the truth today.
Not only are most of the caddies out there pretty good players themselves - Zach Johnson's caddy Damon Green finished 13th in the US Senior Open this year - most are college educated, very articulate, and some pretty incredible people. One of the most common comments we get after one of our experiences is how terrific the TOUR caddy was. We even had one caddy participant come back this year not because of his favorite player, but because of his favorite caddy. Now that's cool.
I contend that this guy who only 'takes caddies' simply did not get it, so to speak. To see golf so close, so personal, with one of the greatest athletes on the planet, is one of the most terrific experiences you will ever encounter in golf.
I urge you to prove me wrong and come "caddy for a cure" yourself.
Sincerely,
Russ Holden PGA
