World #2 Lee Westwood "caddies for a cure"
Caddy For A Cure was thrilled to have the world's former #1 and now #2 ranked golfer, Lee Westwood, participate with the program in Memphis at the FedEx St. Jude Classic. What a day it was with one of the truly great guys in all of golf and with one of the best all time caddies ever, Billy Foster.
The day could not have been more perfect or more inspirational. Caddies Larry Liles and Hal Ferrell were escorted by Staff Sergeant Joseph Lowery. SSGT Lowery is 32 years old and has been through much in his young life of hearing the call and protecting our country. His last injury was on September 11th, 2010, which left him with traumatic brain injuries that he will have for the rest of his life. To be able to have him "on the bag" enjoying golf at its highest levels was our distinct honor. We know Larry and Hal shared this same sentiment, as did Lee.
Being a former national racquetball champion, Larry knows sportsmen and he could not have had higher praise for Lee Westwood, a true gentleman. To spend an entire day watching the defending champion up close and with a personal touch was better than good for Larry. To have your best friend come with you and enjoy it too, made it even that much more special.
Although it was a typically hot Memphis day, nothing could take away from the fun and smiles of being out at TPC Southwind breathing the "rarified air" of the world's #2 player. Watching shot after shot being struck flawlessly at the flag left no wonder whatsoever as to how one becomes the best in the world.
Many thanks to Lee and Billy, as well as to his great management team of Stuart Cage, Louis Martin and Chubby Chandler. Some of the best in the world who truly "get it" with charity and with assisting through this great game we love. They went out of their way to make sure our "caddies" had the day of their lives. The care shown to SSGT Lowery was nearly indescribable. Well done mates, well done!
Our dee pest thanks to SSGT Joseph Lowery. It was a pleasure to meet you and to welcome you to our growing Caddy For A Cure "family." We are so proud to be American when we get to meet true heroes like you in person. Thank you for your service, sir.
Hooyah SSGT Lowery!!!

Barnes, O'Hair, Natalie & Zach Johnson on Schedule
Ricky Barnes may be one of the hottest prospects in all of golf and one of its nicest guys, as well. He will be "caddying for a cure" in New Jersey at The Barclays in August and we are sincerely looking forward to it. Joining him will be Camilo Villegas and we saw his "bag" go in record time to some generous people in New York who simply care and wanted to help out with our causes. They recognized the value and made a very quick decision when they heard Camilo was available. Who would not want to spend a day with Masters Champion Zach Johnson and his super caddy Damon Green? These are sincerely two of the best guys in golf and they are up for having you on their bag in Boston. Joining them will be superstar Sean O'Hair. And cranking up the LPGA Schedule we welcome back Natalie Gulbis to the roster for the Portland Safeway Classic in August. We expect several other girls to join her, so stay tuned and watch your schedule for these awesome experiences with one of the best women golfers in the world! What a great gift idea for that special family member, employee, customer, or yourself? Better yet, TWO people can "work" this detail together and share the experience. Cuts down on cost and still have all the fun! PLEASE CLICK HERE TO BE TAKEN TO OUR LIVE AUCTIONS

Focus on Fanconi
The impetus behind Caddy For A Cure nearly 18 years ago was a personal "touch" with the lethal disease called Fanconi Anemia. It so impacted us that we knew somewhere, somehow, we wanted to make an impact on this disease and raise funds and awareness. Each month, we bring you a case study of a family living through the trials of "FA" and their situation.
Michael Capone was diagnosed with Fanconi Anemia on July 23, 2010 when he was 11 years old. He shows very little visible symptoms of FA, which makes it all the more difficult for people to understand the severity of the illness. Michael is a tough kid and doesn't dwell on his sickness. His theory is "I know I am sick; just tell me where I need to be; when I need to be there and what will be happening to me."

Michael was very active in sports and on the local basketball, soccer and baseball teams before the diagnosis. Since then, he has had to stop his involvement because of his failing bone marrow. He doesn't like the restrictions, but accepts them. He has a great group of friends and enjoys shooting hoops, playing in the creek, video gaming and swimming.
Michael lives in Garnet Valley, Pennsylvania and has two older sisters, Alisha and Samantha, along with two pugs, Brutus and Puggles. He is an awesome kid and a huge inspiration to his whole family. He loves to make people laugh and is simply just a huge joy to be around. Michael is our little phenomenon. Once you meet Michael, you will NEVER forget him!
Caddy For A Cure is GREATLY looking forward to meeting Michael at next week's ATT National at Aronimink Golf Club. We have TOUR players Jim Furyk and Stuart Appleby set to "caddy for a cure," and we know the Capone family is not only glad they are coming, but grateful to the highest degree! |

Green Beret Pulls Prank on Charley Hoffman
We were honored to have recently have a Green Beret as our wounded warrior on the "bag" for superstar Charley Hoffman at the HP Byron Nelson Championship in Dallas. While we were honored and most appreciative to meet our hero, the day was not without some serious fun and laughter along the way.
Mark Neace, owner of the Caddie Club in Dallas, did the honors of buying the experience by raising money through his company and the many customers he has who wanted to help out. He was literally the perfect "caddy" for Charley and gave regular TOUR caddy Miguel Rivera the day off. To have our Green Beret escorting and carrying his share made it all the more inspiring to watch.
You may or may not have heard of Charley's intensity on the golf course and breaking a putter or tossing it in the water out of frustration as he has done at The Players a few times in the past. We knew about it, and we decided to send in a Green Beret to poke a little fun and play a gag. The mission could not have been more successful a s a "fake" identical putter was "placed" in the bag on the 9th hole at Las Colinas. After Charley turned around he was asked by the Green Beret "is this how you did it at The Players, Charley?" and immediately proceeded to bend the putter in two over his knee then heave it out into the lake. Good spirited Charley was at first mortified until he figured out it was not HIS putter, and then broke down laughing. We had a former Navy SEAL in the group assisting and you could hear the competition as the SEAL ribbed the Green Beret that he could not break the putter.

Greetings!
As I am sure you did on US Open Sunday, we sat in utter awe watching Rory McIlroy and all I could think of is the TOUR phrase "these guys are good." Having been around the game for so long, with so many good players, it never ceases to amaze me how incredibly talented these players are.
We were inundated with requests to caddy for Rory, and we feel very comfortable it will happen next year when Rory starts up his 2012 schedule. He is very open to participating with Caddy For A Cure and had agreed to do it earlier this year until his schedule changed at the last minute.
What is also unbelievable is how there are so many players in the world of professional golf that can also "light it up" on any given week. We see 59's from Stuart Appleby and Paul Goydos. We see incredible performances by Rickie Fowler and Bubba Watson, and the list goes on. It simply does not end. To come out on TOUR and caddy for a day for ANY of these men or women is truly an amazing day in your golf life.
Knowing that you have a REAL American Idol walking along with you from our United States Armed Forces, along with your fees going to incredible needs like the Fanconi Anemia Research Fund...well, it just does not get much better. Indeed, caddying allows you a most unique look into the world of golf, and one definitely worth looking into for yourself.
See you soon "on the bag!"
Sincerely,
Russ Holden PGA
