CADDY FOR A CURE DEEP IN THE HEART OF TEXAS
2009 Masters Runner-Up and Texas native Chad Campbell joined the fun at the HP Byron Nelson Championship in Dallas at the newly redesigned TPC at Las Colinas. As the gorgeous Texas skies show in the background, the weather could not have been better, nor could have the fun between Campbell and caddy Jamey Price.
You don't get in a playoff at The Masters or make the United States Ryder Cup Team three times without having some serious game, and Jamey saw that in a most intimate way. He watched the personable fellow Texan fire shot after amazing shot right at the flag, making a bucket of birdies this great day in Dallas.
We always like to tell our caddies on their first time "inside the ropes" on the PGA TOUR that they can get as involved or as uninvolved as they would like during their experience. Here, Jamey gets a real education on yardage books and how the very best players in the world prepare to hit golf shots.
Just how cool is it to come up 18 in front of thousands of fans with one of the best players in the world hitting perfect shots right in front of you? Over the top cool. Jamey was literally speechless at the end of a day that marked one of the highlights of his golf life and that will last in his memories, rich with stories to tell.
Laughing and joking with Chad seemed to be the norm all the way around Las Colinas. As it turned out, Jamey and Chad grew up in the same town in Lubbock and knew many of the same people. It sure made for an even more special day for both of them as they reminisced about playing games as young boys at the old public golf course.
While all the charities benefited in the best of ways from this day, the quiet champion behind the scenes was Jamey's boss, KW Sharp. Being the great guy that he is, KW purchased this opportunity for Jamey as a reward for his work within KW's company. This again served as a great reminder that Caddy For A Cure is a wonderful employee gift, incentive, or reward. You CAN give this away to someone and still receive not only the tax benefit, but the knowledge that many people far less fortunate are benefiting from your total act of generosity.
Well done KW Sharp! Well done.

FOCUS ON FANCONI
This month's featured child is Samantha McCarthy. Their journey with Fanconi anemia started about 4-1/2 years ago on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving, 2004, to be exact.
Samantha
had no visual signs of the disease other than the fact that she is
rather small for her age. Then, she seemed to get
sick about once a month. This was incredible considering that for the first 6 years of her life she never visited the doctor
more than once a year for her regular check-ups. Her diagnosis came after she was unable to shake a very bad cold and her pediatrician did a routine cbc (they did not even know what a cbc was before this).
To make a long story short, the doctors thought Sam had aplastic anemia, which is bone
marrow failure as well, but further tests showed that it was Fanconi
anemia. The McCarthy's began learning about this dreadful disease, including that it brings a higher risk of solid head and neck tumors and other complications later in life.
Samantha began an oxandrolone gene therapy trial in October of 2005 - just after beginning her year as a second grader - and began seeing improvement by that December. Since then, it has been somewhat of a roller coaster ride. By late July of 2008, Sam's platelets indicated the need for a transplant. It had been determined early on that Samantha had a number of bone marrow matches for when that day came - for Sam, it was August 6, 2008.
The McCarthy's remain optimistic and have learned, as much as you can, how to live with the recurring infections, hospital stays, and generally changed 'life as they knew it' pre-fanconi anemia. They are enjoying every day of life from a new perspective and have seen this change in many of their family and friends' lives, too. Sam is a very special girl and many people say she is "electric". She touches everyone who meets her. She has already endured some tough times and she is an absolute trooper through it all. It's true that great things come in small packages!

"I like what you're doing and we want to help" is a phrase and phone call we seem to be getting more and more these days....we heard it from Scott Yates at Orange Lake. We heard it from Jim Weiss at Cold Spring, we heard it from Jay Sapovitz at Wentworth Hills, and we heard it from Michael Caruso at golfcoursewebdesign.com.
Michael was playing in the golf league started by PGA Member Rick Weber called the "Believe Golf League." We met and he was intrigued by how we had combined the world of golf and charity in such a unique way. We talked quite a bit, then he offered to revamp our site and has gifted us a wonderful site. I was stunned. As you can see by going to the page at www.caddyforacure.com, it is truly a wonderful site.
It never ceases to amaze me how the PGA of America golf professionals and PGA TOUR players just have this heart for those less fortunate and want to help. When you walk up to Angel Cabrera right after a Masters victory and it takes 20 seconds to commit to Caddy For A Cure, you know there is something special about this game.
If your club or golf entity needs a web site that YOU can control, run, and have total ease of use with, I encourage you to use this web company. Michael is a first-class guy who loves the game and loves helping others. He is truly one of the good guys in the game and deserves the business. www.golfcoursewebdesign.com
In the end, isn't that is what it is all about for us in the world of golf? Helping others?
Sincerely,
Russ Holden PGA Caddy For A Cure Founder
