CADDYING WITH THE STARS IN LA
AT THE NORTHERN TRUST OPEN

Olson 1

The Riviera Country Club may be one of the coolest places on the PGA TOUR, and the people that run this prestigious PGA TOUR event are some of the best in the world, too. Here, Tim Olson had the day of his life working with superstar Fred Couples.

They don't come much cooler that Fred and long-time caddie, Joe Lacava. Tim had the pleasure of finding out just how great they are as professionals at what they do, but how great they are personally, too.

Olson 2

One of the cool 'bonuses' with Caddy For A Cure is you never know who might be playing in the Pro Am group with your PGA TOUR player. Tim was pleasantly surprised to have world famous actor and music icon, Mark Wahlberg, in Fred's group. "Markie Mark" really enjoys the game and is actually a pretty good player, squeezing in rounds when he can. Tim thought it was pretty great to meet Mark, but Tim's wife, Adrienne REALLY thought it was cool! Imagine that!

Olson 3

It's just not everyday that you get to go "inside the ropes" with one of the legends of the game and to be able to talk golf, life, whatever with them. Here, Masters Champion Fred Couples talks it up with the personable rookie caddy, Tim Olson.

LA Native, Tom Ghyczy, also walked inside the ropes at the Northern Trust Open, partnering with PGA TOUR superstar and Masters Champion, Zach Johnson. This rookie caddy experienced another kind of 'LA Disneyland' in golf dreamland with Zach and his great caddy, Damon Green. Once again, both Zach and Damon treated Tom like an old friend. In fact, Tom was fully impressed that these professional athletes could be so nice.

Gyzcy 2

Learning to read the yardage book was not only fun to do for Tom, but extremely informative for him. It doesn't get much better than standing on the 18th hole at the famous Riviera CC with a Masters Champion, and rattling off the yardage....."You have 183 front, 18 pin, 201 total, 8 uphill, 7 behind." But then, to have Damon check your work, give you the thumbs up at actually being right, was better than good!

Olson 5

Both Tim and Tom personified the great game of golf and of Caddy For A Cure participants. They are CEO's or COO's, have both played in many Pro-Am's and said nothing could have been better than caddying for a PGA TOUR superstar, commenting, "to be in the middle of it all was breathtaking."

Gyzcy 3

Like many Caddy For A Cure participants, Tom had some of his best pals come along with him for the day. They, too, were treated to great hospitality from Zach being invited "inside the ropes" for a quick PIC and handshake. Zach really is one of the coolest guys on the PGA TOUR, going the extra mile to make another 'day of a golf life' for those associated with Caddy For A Cure.

Perhaps above the thrill that our participants experienced is that once again, Caddy For A Cure was able to tell the story about the charities that would benefit as a result of the program. Benefitting in LA was the LAJCC Charity Foundation, in which PGA TOUR Tournament Director Tom Pulchinski is deeply involved.  Knowing that lives would be improved through benefitting organizations like the LAJCC, the Wounded Warrior Project, the Fanconi Anemia Research Fund, and others made this dream day in LA, truly a dream.
 FOCUS ON FANCONI

This month's featured child is Dylan Moore. Normally we write a piece about the child and some of the up's and down's in that child's and family's life. This month...there is no better writer on the planet to tell Dylan's story than Dylan himself. Please read from his Caring Bridge site:

"Hi there! My name is Dylan Cole Moore. I am 5 years old. I love cowboys, country music, cooking, and the Andy Griffith Show. I love my dog "Corky" and my pony "Silver" very much!
My blood is "sick". I suffer from a rare blood disorder called Fanconi Anemia. There are only 500 cases in America.

Dylan 1

My Mom says that Fanconi Anemia is a very rare genetic disorder with a very high frequency of bone marrow failure and many other problems. Patients with FA have a 75% chance of developing solid tumors at unusually young ages, including head, neck, esophagus and squamous cell carcinomas, as well as liver tumors.

I was diagnosed on September 22, 2004. At that time, I was experiencing mild bone marrow failure. Over the last two years, I have been monitored very closely through routine bloodwork and regular bone marrow biopsies. My family has spent endless hours doing research on FA and consulting with doctors all over the world.

Over the last few months, my bone marrow failure has progressed to severe. This leaves me very vulnerable to possible life threatening infections and internal hemmoraging.

Dylan 3

I am going to get some "new" blood! I am facing a bone marrow transplant, probably within the next year. Doctors are trying to delay transplant as long as possible because of the danger associated with transplant. Bone marrow transplant for FA patients is the single most difficult and dangerous procedure in medical history. However, if transplant is delayed too long, the chance of a successful transplant is jeopardized. I could also develop leukemia, which reduces the survival rate drastically.

The past two years have been very difficult for us all! My family has gained a great deal of strength from, not only our friends and family, but our whole community. We have been truly overwhelmed by the outpouring of support. It has made this horrible burden a bit easier to bear!

Dylan 2

My Mom says that you are all very special people! Please continue to pray for me and my family.

Pray that:
God grants us the serenity to accept the things that we cannot change;
Courage to change the things we can;
and
Wisdom to know the difference.

Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will direct your paths." (Proverbs 3, 5-6)

CADDY FOR A CURE HITS FLORIDA LIKE A HURRICANE
WITH SEAN O'HAIR

Caddy For A Cure returned to Florida at Bay Hill and came within one shot of adding it's 20th "victory" with Sean O'Hair behind Tiger Woods. Quite amazingly we have had 19 players win either the week they participate with Caddy For A Cure, or the week immediately following. We like to think that good things happen to people that do good.

O Sullivan 1

Here, Michael O' Sullivan caddied for Sean O'Hair  - and it wasn't even St. Patrick's day, although it sure seemed like it! Michael and his lovely wife, Rose, made the trek to the Transitions Championship at Innisbrook and were treated to some PGA TOUR-style great golf and great fun.

O Sullivan 2

A fitness challenge for anyone, Michael made it all around the hilly Innisbrook Copperhead course, taking just a few breaks where world class PGA TOUR caddy, Paul Tesori, stepped in to help. In true blarney stone gift of gab fashion, Michael will be quick to tell anyone how cool it was to be up close and personal with the 2008 defending champion at Innisbrook. And as Tiger made his almost trademark dramatic putt on 18 for the Sunday win, Michael wondered if his Irish luck had betrayed him! Not a chance, Michael!

WWH 1
This game of golf MUST be the best game on the face of the earth. Where else could you find a game that allows people of all ages to come together and have a game, spend time together and create memories while being outdoors enjoying fresh air?

Further, what game could be more giving than the game of golf? I was incredibly stunned the other day to receive one of those e-mails that we all would love to get just once in a lifetime. Out of the blue, a fellow named Jay Sapovits wrote to me that he is duly impressed with Caddy For A Cure's work, that he owns a facility just outside of Boston called Wentworth Hills, and that he wants to help. We immediately chatted, found that we have numerous mutual friends,  and we now have an event scheduled at his golf course in the fall during the week of the Fed Ex Cup Deutsche Bank Championship.

WWH 2Here is a fellow with a history of great success in business and life who wants to help. What is it about the game of golf that 'breeds' these people so unique to society today? While other sports do their part in contributing, all pall in comparison to the PGA TOUR, the PGA of America, and great course owners like Jay Sapovits.

What makes the people who decide to put the bag on their shoulders for a PGA TOUR player and lug it around for 18 holes with all their money going to charity with Caddy For A Cure?

I wish I knew because if we could bottle it, many of our world's problems would be over.

I am just glad and so fortunate to be a small part of this great game of golf.

        Sincerely,

        Russ Holden PGA
