  2009 Projected Winner:
CADDY FOR A CURE CHARITIES

Couples 1

Planning for the 2009 Caddy For A Cure season is already underway and a stellar line up of opportunities is in store. Headlining the Northern Trust LA Open will be fan favorites and Masters Champions Fred Couples and Zach Johnson.

Rizzo 1

These two great players, along with their sensational caddies Joe Lacava and Damon Green, will be showing you the ropes of being "inside the ropes" in early February at the historic Riviera Country Club. Can you imagine what it would be like to stand on the 1st tee and be announced with Freddie or Zach and have the crowd roar while you hand them their driver?

Steve Johnson 2

Also on tap for next season is Ryder Cup star and all-around fantastic guy, Boo Weekley. Boo will be with us twice in 2009 at the ever popular FBR Open in Phoenix and then in Hilton Head at the Verizon Heritage.  In fact, Boo demanded that we keep the good luck going for him in Hilton Head as he repeats his 2008 participation with us there, defending his title. So, east coasters and west coasters can get some southern hospitality from the character we all watched riding the driver pony at Valhalla. Just think about coming to the  #16 Par 3 at TPC Scottsdale carrying Boo's bag? No telling what could happen here....

Holmes 1

Speaking of champions, also joining Boo in Phoenix will be defending champion and Ryder Cup star JB Holmes, along with another Ryder Cup star and almost PGA Champion, Ben Curtis.
If you want to see some definition of long, come to Phoenix and caddy for JB for a day. We guarantee you will never forget this one!

Bowden 1

Also on tap for next season is Paul Casey at The Players Championship, Stewart Cink for Colonial, Robert Allenby for the Honda, and the list will continue to grow as these great players all figure the best week to Caddy For A Cure.  Make sure you keep watching the website along with this newsletter to see who is going to be where, then get ready for the fun.

Steve Johnson 3

There hasn't been a week that goes by or an experience that has occured that we don't hear something like: "The day of my golf life," "unreal cool," or "so glad I decided to do this." But the very best comment we love to hear above and beyond the day of a golfing lifetime is: " and it was ALL for a worthy cause." Remember, 100 % of all proceeds for a day of a lifetime all goes to charity.
 FOCUS ON FANCONI

The long and mostly painful - but sometimes joyful - journey for Diane and Mark Pearl began in 1995 when their daughter Alexandra was born premature. After several years of testing, Alex was diagnosed with the rare disease Fanconi Anemia.

Pearl 1

Fanconi Anemia is a rare blood disorder that causes bone marrow failure and can be fatal. Most children with FA do not reach adulthood, with an average age of only 22 even after a successful bone marrow transplant. They are also up to 300,000 times more likely to face cancer.

Pearl 2

Alex's brother Matthew, was born in 1997 was also diagnosed with Fanconi Anemia shortly after Alexandra had been diagnosed in 2001.

When Alexandra was first diagnosed, as a way to cope, she painted a red heart and wrote B+ on it. That became the family's new motto, "Be Positive" and was also the birth of B Positive Inc. to raise money for the Fanconi Anemia Research Foundation.

Pearl 3

Alexandra received her life-saving bone marrow transplant in May of 200I and Matt received his in 2006, where he spent 120 consecutive days in critical condition in the hospital. Caddy For A Cure is thrilled to report that both are doing well as of today and both have made contact with the donors that saved their life.

Donors and the recipients are not allowed to make contact or meet until at least a year after the transplant. When the time was up, there was no doubt about a meeting. Diane Pearl says that even today she has no idea how to thank enough the two mothers of the donors.

"Where is the 'buy-a-gift-for-a-mom-that-saved-your-children's-life-store?" "How does a mom like me thank these other two moms for selflessly giving me Mother's Day every day of the year?" Diane said. "What can I say or do that shows my heartfelt gratitude and appreciation?"

Pearl 4

Indeed. It seems that we all need a little "B Positive" when it comes to life. Caddy For A Cure takes our hats off to the Pearl family of St. Louis and at the same time prayerfully asks for their continued health for Alex and Matt.

DAVE HUBER CADDIES FOR MASTERS CHAMPION MIKE WEIR

Chicago native and financial firm President Dave Huber recently had the dream day of his golf life when he caddied for Masters Champion Mike Weir at The Barclays in New Jersey. The day could not have been nicer for this first time professional caddie as he spent the day with the incredibly talented Mike Weir from Canada.

Huber 2

What a chance of a lifetime to not only spend the day with one of the greatest players in the world, but to also "partner" with him and participate in each and every shot. Not only do you stand right next to him in front of thousands of people, but you get to see shot-making at its absolute finest.

Huber 3

A chance to ask about what it is like to wear a green jacket at Augusta, a chance to get tips from the very best, a chance to get to know one of the brightest stars in the world of golf. We take great pride in the comments that our participants have to say after their day is over.

Dave's words were simply sensational: "I wanted to thank you for a most memorable experience. What you are doing with the Caddy For A Cure program has a profound impact and touches the lives of so many people. Knowing that the money raised is going towards helping so many different charities, while exposing people to Fanconi Anemia, a condition which flies under the radar of most charities, really makes your charity special. The pictures you sent me are priceless, and I have to best figure out how to display my autographed bib, as well as the 2003 Masters flag Mike signed. I have shared my experience with all my golf buddies and most all would like to try this next year. Thanks again for the wonderful experience."

MEET PHIL MICKELSON AT TOUR CHAMPIONSHIP

Christian Calen 1

The meeting of the year occurred recently at the TOUR Championship at East Lake in Atlanta. World #2 Phil Mickelson was coming off his practice round and all around great guy and caddie Jim "Bones" McKay made sure his man met up with two very special guests.

Everything you see on TV is real and then some with Lefty. In the middle of everything and all the fans, he dropped everything to meet up with Christian and Calen and have some photos taken. Without hesitation, he reached in his bag and signed a glove for each one creating a memory that will last forever in the hearts of these two Fanconi Anemia survivors.

Way to go Phil, way to go Bones. Great job and thanks!

CADDY FOR A CURE GOLF TOURNAMENT GETS RAIN, BUT A HUGE SUCCESS

It was the kind of day that a tournament director has nightmares about. Clouds dark and rumblings from the lightning that accompanies. But nothing could detract from the fun and excitement of being at a great place with some great food and drink.

Peter Johncke, the Trick Shot Master, wooed the guests with a spectacular show and had everyone in pure awe of his masterful skills and sense of humor before the skies opened up . The above pictured two handed shots were simply incredible by anyone's standards. Peter is a MUST if you are looking for a gifted show that will leave your audiences astounded and happy. First class people, first class show.

Fortunately, we were lucky enough to have friends in high places as we were graced with XM Radio's "Making the Turn" host Peter Kessler. Peter saw the handwriting on the wall and proceeded to step up to the microphone and give one of his compelling talks about the world of golf, history and anecdotes about some the greatest memories of the game. He easily could have spoken for hours and we were sad to see his "show" end and not a person in the field wanted him to stop, either.

Mizner Country Club was again the best in the area for service and assistance and next year's event is already on the books, along with prayers for no more liquid sunshine!

Zig 1
Much of what happens on a daily basis helping SO many people in so many different arenas of need can easily be traced back to the inspiration and advice from one dear friend and mentor: Zig Ziglar.

It was Zig who once said that he "reached a point in time where he realized that he not only had a dream, but the dream had him."

Further, Zig's constant support in telling me that "I was born to win" was SO remarkably strong in its impac. It has definitely contributed to the success that Caddy For A Cure has achieved - the success of raising funds and awareness for great causes like the Fanconi Anemia Reseach Fund, and The Wounded Warrior Project

But these dreams were there a long time until Zig's most unique and incredibly profund tool came my way. I listened as he talked about so many people that have the best of intentions and best ideas in the world, but never seem to get around to doing it.

Tuit ColoredHe offered up a little round wood token that had the words to the right on it. At first, I had no idea what a "round tuit" was. But then, with his classic Yazoo City, Mississippi accent, it all came together for me what it meant. He said that if I had one of these tokens with me, I could always keep in mind the time when I would "get round to it." It struck me that there was no time like the present to start helping and making it happen. People in need were hoping that I would "get round tuit" and now here we are.

I had a notion that caddying on the PGA TOUR was one of the coolest things in the world of golf and I knew that people would pay money to work with the greatest players in the game for a day. It is such a unique look into the world of professional golf that is unlike anything else in professional sports. I knew, and I know, that this can raise a lot of money for charity using this great game we all love and enjoy.

I am so grateful that I once received a round token called a "round tuit" and made good use of it. It has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for many who are less fortunate and has brought the disease of Fanconi Anemia into the minds of millions that previously had no knowledge of it.

So, print this out and then take some scissors and cut out the "round tuit" today and then find the time to get around to helping out.  You will be so glad you did.

        Sincerely,

        Russ Holden
