World's Best Players meet Fanconi Anemia

Tiger ChristianThe world's very best players recently had the chance to meet up with National Spokesperson and Fanconi Anemia patient Christian Collins at the TOUR Championship in Atlanta.

In an act of kindness that could be the highlight of the existence of Caddy For A Cure, dear friend and world great Jim Furyk secured his position as #1 in Christian's eyes as he introduced him to FEDEX Cup Champion Tiger Woods.

Jim saw Christian waiting around hoping to get a chance to meet Tiger and immediately said "let's do something about that right now."  Jim brought us down to the putting green at the famed East Lake Golf Club where Tiger was deep in the practice regimen that has earned him the position as best athlete on the planet.  Tiger immediately stopped to not only give Christian a golf ball, but to sign his hat and chat with him for a few minutes. Clearly, Tiger is not only the best golfer in the world, but one of the classiest as well.

Tiger 2 What a great day in the life of someone who has been fighting against odds for a long time.

Thanks Jim Furyk.

Thanks Tiger.

CFAC SPOTLIGHT: FANCONI ANEMIA
Christian's Corner

We like to spotlight a charity each newsletter and we have had an awesome response from our readers with regard to the uniqueness of the many charities that Caddy For A Cure supports. It is impossible for us to forget what our main impetus was behind the program and that is Fanconi Anemia. While at the TOUR Championship in Atlanta, I had the opportunity to sit down with Fanconi Anemia patient Christian Collins and have a question and answer session which is included below. This hopefully brings to light a little more about the day-to-day aspects of living with Fanconi.

Caddy For A Cure : Where were you born and when?

Christian: I was born in Boynton Beach, Florida in 1993.

Caddy For A Cure: What is it like having Fanconi Anemia?

Christian: Well, it doesn't allow me to do everything I want to do like my brothers and friends because I'm shorter than others and have eight fingers (four on each hand). But, I can do things that others can't. The issues that I have with the disease is that my left hand I don't use as much as my right hand or as much as I should because it is still bent from a surgery that I have had in the past. I'm hypo-glycemic which means that if I don't eat anything for a whole day or don't eat enough sugar I could have a sugar drop and go into a coma.

Caddy For A Cure: What medications do you take?

Christian: Well, I take Cortef three times a day at eight in the morning, one at six or dinner time and one at midnight. I take synthroid at eight when I take my first Cortef.

Caddy For A Cure: Who is your favorite golfer?

Christian: My personal favorite in the PGA is Jim Furyk. He is my friend.

Caddy For A Cure: What is your favorite sport?

Christian: I think now golf is, but I like others too.

Caddy For A Cure: Favorite car?

Christian: Probably a Lotus Elise, but I'm never sure.

Caddy For A Cure: Favorite Food?

Christian: Well, you're going to think this is funny but I like Penne pasta with nothing but butter. Talk to you next time.

PAUL VOGT CADDIES FOR KJ CHOI
The dream of a lifetime come true. The chance to caddy for one of the world's best players on one of the world's best courses in Firestone Country Club. Paul Vogt had just that opportunity recently as he found out how great of a player and gentleman KJ Choi is. Along with PGA TOUR caddie Andy Prodger, Paul made his trek around the historic Akron course and had a blast. He learned exactly why KJ has won twice this year and has challenged in many majors before. Awesome time and one he will never forget!
Russ Masters
As the 2007 Season finishes up in the next few weeks, we look back with fond memories of the many new friends we made this year who put the bag on their shoulder and gave it a whirl. I cannot help but think back to the excitement that I see in each winners eyes when they stand on the range of a PGA TOUR official event for the first time. Or, when they come inside the equipment trailers and see how world's best clubmakers like Dean Teykl, Wade Liles, Barry Lyda, or the many others hone their trade for the PGA TOUR golfers.

I love watching them trudge up to the first tee with so much anticipation of what is to come. There they are, standing there with the players they have seen so many times on TV, in front of all the fans, standing inside the ropes. How cool is this? What other sport could you do this in?

It is all great but the most fun for us is writing the checks. I love seeing the checks going to the multitude of charities that this PGA TOUR supports and nourishes. How great is it knowing that every dollar that someone paid for a day they will never forget, went to someone who in turn will never forget them? Awesome.

If you are thinking about trying it, please do. It will be something that you are glad you did for the rest of your life.

        Sincerely
