NOR RAIN, NOR SNOW, NOR SLEET CAN TAKE AWAY THE FUN AT
THE BARCLAY'S

OK so it rained a lot in New York for our big day in the Big Apple. Were we going to let that spoil the fun? In a lot of ways it makes it even more fun for the Caddy For A Cure participants because you get to meet the players in an environment that we don't normally get to meet them in.

Above is a picture of Vijay Singh with our Spokesperson Christian Collins and his brother Calen, who is also a FA patient. Vijay braved the elements to come into the Cleveland trailer to meet his would be caddie Michael Brown, as well meet the boys. Plenty of fun and plenty of jokes on a not so pleasant day.

In all the years of Caddy For A Cure, it was our first complete wash out. So, what do we do outside of hanging around all day waiting for the liquid sunshine to stop? We make other arrangements. Michael Brown is going to come to Phoenix next year as is Michael O'Sullivan, who was to caddy for Sean O'Hair. No, that is not a typo where O's were added to all the above names. ......

This is going to be one great day and a lot of fun. There are going to be some world famous celebrities participating which I will confirm in the next few weeks, as well as a list of auction items unlike anything else you have seen before. Items from the world of golf that could only come from deep within the PGA TOUR, which, by the way, we do have some contacts....

The Mizner Country Club in Delray has been so gracious to allow us to host our event there. The clubhouse is second the none and the food and beverage this day will rival any event held anywhere in the world.

Go to the site and click on the link to the Golf Tournament for more information.

CADDY FOR A CURE CHARITY SPOTLIGHT:
UW CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL

Caddy for a Cure is proud to have the University of Wisconsin Children's Hospital as its PGA TOUR player gift from Jerry Kelly as a result of his participation in The Barclay's recently.

American Family Children's Hospital is a complete children's medical and surgical center with a pediatric intensive care unit, an internationally recognized transplant surgery program, a children's cancer center and a family-friendly atmosphere located in Madison, Wisconsin.

Every year the hospital sees more than 35,000 children, many of whom receive treatment for serious and/or life-threatening illnesses.

Where the donations go

Currently, we have four major funds in need of support, including:
  • Patient and Family Fund: By giving to the Patient and Family Fund, you will help families with lodging, meals, and emergency transportation. Funds directed to this program also support patient care programs and community outreach and prevention programs.
  • Child Life Fund: Child Life staff work with both children and families, using play to promote a positive hospital experience and maintaining developmental and normal living patterns.
  • Cure Kids Cancer Fund: Funds directed to this program are used to support research projects, provide direct support to patients and families and will be used to help build the Cancer Clinic in the new American Family Children's Hospital.

ROBIN KIRTLEY CADDIES FOR JERRY KELLY

Robin Kirtley recently had the day of his golf life with PGA TOUR star Jerry Kelly at the famed Westchester Country Club in New York. While Robin is a member of the famed and most historic landmark in Harrison, he got to see some golf shots unlike anything he sees on a regular basis in his Saturday morning group.

He found out why Jerry is a multiple winner on the PGA TOUR, as well as one of the nicest and well-liked pro's out there. His sense of humor and overall demeanor are and were outstanding.

Caddies and PGA TOUR players spend a lot of time together under extreme pressure and difficult situations and it is imperative that they get along. Jerry's caddie Eric Meller is one of the "class acts" within the caddie ranks and this day was no exception. Not forgetting that Eric got the "day off" by not having to carry the bag, he could not have been more helpful and more accommodating to Robin on his first "loop" for a PGA TOUR player.

The best part of the experience for Robin was definitely getting to see where his money went for the spectacular day when he met Fanconi Anemia patients Christian and Calen Collins. He got to see first-hand the massive effects of Fanconi and what it does to innocent children.
Having a Spokesperson is something beyond my wildest dreams. A Spokesperson exemplifies and personifies everything that is true of what they represent. I "hired" Christian really wanting to do something cool for him and in my own way give him something really awesome to look forward to. Who could have known what it would do to those many people he has come in contact with out on the PGA TOUR?

Christian's brother Calen came out on TOUR this past week in Westchester to see what was going on out here. He suffers with Fanconi Anemia as well. It was definitely "double trouble" as the two boys stole the hearts and minds of everyone they came in contact with. The guys had such a great time as evidenced by the picture above with self-confirmed redneck Dean Teykl from Srixon. It was so cool to see them play Wii in the Taylor Made van with Wade Liles, to see them clown around on top of Tim Herron's bag on the range. But, while this was all fun and good, it leaves a stark reminder of what we are doing.

These guys are never going to hit a golf ball the way we all try to. They are never going to have a chance to even caddy the way we have. They live with this 24/7 and will for the rest of their lives. Being a Spokesperson gets them involved and gives them something really nice to look forward to, but it does not change their rampant disease that they fight. And that thousands of more families around the world fight.

Caddying on the PGA TOUR is great fun, but what is more fun is to know that we are raising funds for so many, and raising awareness of this evil disease that negatively impacts a life the way it does. Won't you please consider giving to Caddy For A Cure? We know it is something you will take great pride in as we do with our work. Simply go to the site and click on the donation button on the homepage.
