CEPCO teams up with Golden Capital for exciting Thursday Tech Group meeting

The December meeting for the CEPCO Tech Group will be scheduled in conjunction with the Golden Capital Network Strategy Event. This session, FORGING YOUR BUSINESS FORWARD INTO 2009, will be held on Thursday from 2 to 7 p.m. at the Uptime Co-Working Studio at 101 Salem Street, Suite 240. (Corner of First and Salem Streets)
 
Here's an overview of the event:

In the challenging economy forecasted for 2009, businesses need relevant, mission-critical information from their peers and other industry leaders in order to succeed. Using a real-world case study format, the extensive time for audience interaction, successful CEOs, entrepreneurs and investors will share their insights with North State businesses about how to survive and thrive in today's challenging economy.

Topics to the covered:

1. Strategies for leveraging global and nomadic resources- and technology to manage costs, create partnerships and add specialized expertise to grow your business.
2.Strategies for growing and retaining customers
3. Strategies for finding and managing talent
4. Fundraising strategies in today's economy
5. SpeedPitch fest to a panel of entrepreneurs
6. Networking and celebrating the holidays

Jolene Francis named Chamber of Commerce President and CEO
The Chico Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors has confirmed Jolene Francis as the new President and Chief Executive Officer of the organization.  She will take over the position immediately. 
 

Born and raised in Chico, Jolene enjoyed a successful career in the financial services industry for over 28 years. 
 
In 2005, Jolene left Umpqua Bank to pursue a consulting opportunity for a group of local investors desiring to start a new Chico based banking operation.  With her help Golden Valley Bank was organized, approved and began operation in 2006.  Her work included managing the activities of the future Board of Directors, assisting in writing the business plan, regulatory applications, policies and procedures, and creation of the product line. 
 
She has served eight years on the City of Chico Planning Commission, including two terms as Chair.
 
She has also served on the Boards of Directors of the Chico Chamber of Commerce, the Chico Economic Planning Corporation, the Butte Economic Development Corporation, and the Chico Community Scholarship Association, as well as several other charitable boards.   She currently serves as the President of the Chico Noon Rotary Club.
 
During her career, Jolene has been honored with several awards and recognitions, including the Soroptimist International 'Women Helping Women' Award, the ButteCommunity College 'Alfred E. Konuwa Economics Achievement Award', and the coveted Chico Chamber of Commerce 'Athena Award'.
 
Jolene and her husband Mark have three children.  Son Casey Dietle is 24 and a seasonal firefighter with Cal Fire.  Twin daughters Kristen and Lauren are 16 and in their junior year at Pleasant Valley High School.

Randall Kempner, VP for Regional Innovation at the Council on Competitiveness, will be the keynote speaker for the ninth-annual Tri-County Economic Forecast Conference. The festivities will take place from 8 a.m. to noon in the Bell Memorial Union Auditorium on the Chico State campus.

Other speakers include Dr. Robert Eyler, who is the chair of the economics department at Sonoma State in Rohnert Park. Dr. Eyler will focus on the North State's economy while a pair from the Center for Economic Development will focus on the local economy.

CSUC economics professor Dr. David Gallo and Dan Ripke, Director of the CED, will be the speakers for that portion.

Also, the Jan. 15 CEPCO Job Creation Committee meeting is cancelled so that members may be free to go to the conference.

Tables of 8 can be purchased at a $60 discount, at $460. Individuals are charged $65 if they purchase their tickets before Jan. 9.

Town and Gown Task Force is ready to  work on connecting City and University
The mission of CEPCO's Town and Gown Task Force is to advocate public policies that will create partnerships to foster the formation and growth to train the emerging workforce to meet the needs of existing and emerging industries in the Chico region.

There are four initiatives that the task force will tackle and it all will commence with a meeting on Jan. 22, 2009 at 555 Main St., Suite 300 at 7:30 a.m. But CEPCO would love to get your ideas and feedback before then. If you have any ideas, concerns, questions or comments, forward them along to us with an email to Leland.

Steve Gonsalves of Nichols, Melburg and Rossetto will be the chair of the task force. Gonsalves is a former CEPCO Chairman. Frank Marinello is the current Chairman of the Board.

CEPCO Job Creation Committee and City Technology Group have new blogs
Bob In order to keep committee members abreast of the activity of the Job Creation Committee and Technology Group, we have developed a blog that will communicate the agendas and action notes from meetings. There is also an opportunity for members to comment on the topics of the agenda. Bob Linscheid (left) is the verbal artist of both blogs but he's always looking to hear from people in the community who are interested in new ideas.
