February 2010

Greetings!

In this month's edition we take a quick look at our Series GRM1 Clamp. Released just this past December, this actuator has already proven to be a very popular automation clamp for many workholding applications.

For February, our Application Highlight examines a few instances where contamination issues have been addressed by PHD's Unlimited Unique Solutions group. These special challenges required actuators that were either particularly suited for or customized to meet some of the toughest environmental demands.

Once again, PHD showcases another one of the best eTools in the industry, our Online Sizing Software with our unique actuator comparison capability.

To your continued success!

Series GRM1 Clamps ..... another hit for PHD!

Smaller yes, but every bit as strong!

Just released a little over two months ago, the new Series GRM1 Clamps offer just as much workholding force as their big brothers, the Series GRM2. With less weight and a slightly smaller footprint, these clamps provide the same 225 pounds of total clamp force.

  PHD Series GRM1 Clamp

Weighing in at less than 1 pound and in an evelope size of 45mm x 45mm x 120mm tall the GRM1 is ideally suited for confined work areas or for robotic end-of-arm applications. Just like its big brother, this series also features PHD's cam-design technology that locks the jaws in the closed position even if air pressure is lost.

The Series GRM1 accepts all of the GRM2 standard tips. Also offered are jaw open/closed switches as well as switches that sense panel presence or double sheet detection.

Tough Environment?  Let PHD's Unlimited Unique Solutions group help tackle it!

When PHD customers come to us with a severe environment application, first we listen, then we design!

Here are just of a few of the challeges we've answered:
  • A White PET Gripper helped ease of contaminant identification in pharmaceutical applications.
  • Stainless Steel Jaws and PET Body Gripper for deionized water and/or high moisture environments
  • Large Bore Gripper w/ Metallic Scrapers and Purge Ports for harsh sand casting Lost Foam/Foundry applications
  • Series SFP Slide with Standard Outer Band and Inner Pressure Seal excludes invasive flour contamination in commercial bakery applications.
  • Composite Bearing Slide w/ Metallic Scrapers helps protect from contaminants in forging environments
These are just a few examples of what we can do. PHD's  Unlimited Unique Solutions engineers are working with an ever increasing range of materials to help you with your next environmental problem.

PHD Online Sizing Software Features Product Comparison!

This month, we spotlight our Online Sizing Software. This powerful eTool has helped many designers over the years by substantially reducing project design time and eliminating risk. Recently added is the ability to compare one PHD actuator's performance with another, head to head.

As illustrated below, users can input variables for application attributes such as actuator orientation, travel, payload, etc. and then compare multiple successful models for effects such as unit weight, flow rate, maximum payload at velocity, and more.

PHD Slide Sizing Comparison

This compare capability gives the user a very quick look at several models of PHD actuators to help with their design selection. Recently added as well is the ability to quickly generate and obtain CAD files of your selection with just the press of a button.
