January 2010
Greetings!

Our January edition features the enhancement of our Series GRK Grippers with the Spring Assist Option. If you're looking for high grip forces and long life with a precision jaw motion then the Series GRK is likely just the gripper for you.

This month, our Application Highlight focuses on food preparation, processing and packaging. PHD offers many Unique Solutions in these industries, from materials to plating and beyond. Actuators that solve the difficult application issues.

Also, continuing to provide the best eTools in the industry, PHD has published more new animations on our learn site. The spotlight this month is on our Series SD/SE Slides

Series GRK Grippers now offering Spring Assist
Great Precision with Higher Grip Forces

First released in March of last year, PHD's Series GRK Precision Grippers are now available with optional Spring Assist. This option can be used to increase their already exceptional grip forces or to provide a measure of gripping capability even if air pressure is lost. Higher grip forces might likely translate to utilizing a smaller, less expensive unit compared to the competition. Opportunities for cost savings are obvious.

  Series GRK Grippers

Series GRK Grippers are equipped with wear-compensating jaw guides that permit the actuators to operate with the same degree of precision after ten million cycles as they did right out of the box!

These Grippers are available in four sizes with two ranges of jaw travel per size. This allows designers to select the grip force and jaw travel just right for their application.

Review the latest Series GRK Catalog now and see just how much force and precision you can get!

Food preparation, processing and packaging? Go with experience, go with PHD Unique Solutions!

In recent years, PHD has worked to provide solutions into a wide range of industries. One area that we have helped customers increase their productivity is in food processing. PHD has met customer requirements by offering products that not only provide long life but also hold up in harsh 'wash down' environments.

Traditionally, the majority of rugged automation actuators have been constructed of alloy steels and aluminums. For the food industry, PHD has worked with customers to develop coatings for use in some environments. Other applications have required a change in the basic materials used to construct the actuator. PHD has developed a core competency of working with food grade plastics such as PET (polyethylene terephthalate) and Ertalyte®. We can also use more common stainless steels for various actuator components. PHD has tested a variety of food grade lubricants and incorporated them in many food industry applications.

A prime example of these non-traditional materials is a rack and pinion rotary actuator with a PET body and stanless steel shaft along with stainless steel roller bearings.

PET Rotary Actuator
Shown at right, this actuator was designed to replace a competitor's unit that was failing in the customer's application. The roary actuator provided by PHD was able to resist the effects of the caustic chemicals used in the customer's 'wash down' process. Take a closer look at the details of the PET Rotary Actuator.

PHD's ability to create Unique Solutions for the food industry might benfit you greatly with your particular needs!
New Simulations for Janaury

Series SD and SE Slides feature new animations!

This month, PHD is proud to present a whole array of animation simulations featuring highlights and capabilities of our Series SD/SE Slides.

SD / SE Pick and Place

These highly interactive simulations of PHD Slides easily illustrate features such as :

  • TC Bearings Reduce End-of-Travel Oscillation and
Extend Actuator Life in Harsh Environments
  • Internal Cushions Save Space and Eliminate Costly External Controls
  • Optional RodLok Stops Unwanted Actuator Travel
  • Series SD/SE Slide Application Examples
