April 2009
Greetings!

This month PHD begins offering a Teachable Switch with some unique advantages. This convenient switch is compatible with many existing PHD cylinders, slides, grippers, and rotary actuators with a standard 4mm "C" slot. Read on for more details.

Our Application Highlight tells the story of a recent problem that required our Application Engineers to think outside the box. Check out their clever solution.

Also this month, we expand our vast library of multi-media offerings with a new simulation showing off the JC Switch, as well as several animations demonstrating our SFM Slides.

Teachable Switch
Introducing our new Programmable Prox Switch

PHD is proud to announce our PHD's Programmable SwitchSeries JC Teachable Switches, which feature two programmable outputs. Simply mount the switch, place the actuator in the first desired position and set the first output. Then place the actuator in the second desired position and set the second output. Output settings are retained even after power interruption. LED indicators make programming simple.

Since each switch provides two outputs, an actuator with only two slots may have up to four outputs by using just two switches. Available in both 2 meter cabled and quick-connect versions, these switches are solid state for long life and reliable operation.

PHD's new Series JC Programmable Magnetic Proximity Switches combine performance, precision, and ease of use at an affordable package price!
A free online/download PDF version of the JC Switch catalog is available for your convenience.

Giving you what you want when you want it. That's PHD.
Application Highlight
Space constraints pose unique challenge

A customer's machine using twin rod-style cylinders to stop planks travelling down a conveyor was just not holding up to the impact. They called in PHD's Compact EscapementApplications group, who found that our LCS132x32 Escapement would be a suitable solution.  But because the machine was designed around the twin rod cylinders, the standard LCS Escapement would not fit.

PHD's Unlimited group was able to design a compact LCS Escapement by moving the cylinder from behind the escapement finger to below the finger. This new design provided the same performance as a standard unit, but reduced the package envelope allowing it to fit within the customer's constraints. Upon request, we incorporated a direct mount valve for a clean package and easy setup.

With it's modular multi-position stop system, the SFM SFM End Stop
Slide is ready to solve a diverse array of difficult problems. This ingenious device allows numerous intermetdiate stopping positions, limited only by the length of the slide.

Standard delivery is 4 working days.

Our latest interactive animations quickly explain in-depth features, such as:
  • How to easily add stops in a variety of locations
  • Different options for Shock Absorbers on the SFM
  • A sample conveyor transfer Application
