When the heat is on PHD performs
This Unlimited Unique Solution successfully solved a number of challenging problems. Hot "ware" (bottles) are removed from a mold and released in front of the Pusher Slide, which extends and rotates at the same speed as the adjacent conveyor system, delivering product to the conveyor.
The velocity control of the slide in this high temperature application was key. The slide must extend at a very controlled rate since the finished bottles have a very short timeframe to sequence with the other bottles already on the conveyor. The slide needs to cycle as fast as possible without harming the bottle, but must have a quick exhaust to retract slowly enough not to spin the bottle with the hook finger, but still be fast enough to return before disturbing the next bottle on the conveyor. The conveyor is moving at about 12 inches per second.
PHD built a twin bore thruster slide with a custom quick exhaust valve that operates in a 325° F environment. The slide has rack and pinion travel adjustment and dovetail tool mounting. The PHD slide is designed to handle the high temperature of the environment as well as the dirt and molten glass that migrate onto the moving parts of the slide.
