From the Executive DIrector
Dear Friends,
On behalf of the entire CCHS staff, I'd like to wish you a very happy New Year!

I'd also like to thank you for your support in 2008.  Because of your generous contributions--of time, talents, and funds--we have been able to place many homeless animals in happy forever homes.  Your support has also enabled us to provide medical care to our animal residents, foster homes for litters of puppies and kittens, and educational programming to the children in our community.

I'm looking forward to continuing our efforts in the New Year.  It's truly a pleasure to be working with a humane organization in this community, where so many people share my commitment to compassionate care for companion animals.

May the optimism with which we welcome the year anew remain in our hearts throughout.

Very truly yours,
Tief
CCHS Executive Director

Featured Alum: Scout Celebrates One Year in her Forever Home
PIcture of Scout
Dog's Name:  Scout (formerly Mira)
Date of Adoption: Jan 3, 2008

Here's an update from Scout's family:
We went to CCHS on January 2, 2008 looking for a dog to add to our family.  We took a couple of dogs to the play yard, but weren't convinced they were right for us.  Then one of the CCHS staff members suggested we take "Mira" out for a go-around....

Pet of the Month: Charlie
Picture of Charlie
Charlie is an American Pit Bull Terrier mix currently available for adoption.  He is one year and four months of age, and has been at the shelter since August 26th of this year.

Charlie currently has a 'fan' video posted on You Tube, created by Heather Davis, a CCHS volunteer adoption counselor.

Charlie's unique personality and intelligence are showcased in the video.  He has learned basic obedience skills while at CCHS; such as how to sit and lie down, and how to walk on a leash nicely.  He's also learned that kisses will win just about anyone over!  We really want to see Charlie get a new home for the New Year.
Employee of the Month: Clay Foley
Picture of Clay Foley
Clay has been the CCHS Humane Investigator and Educator since September 2006.  He is an exceptionally compassionate and thoughtful person who has repeatedly gone beyond the call of duty to help the people in our community care for their pets.

Comforting and non-judgmental to those in need, Clay works with people in our community to resolve difficult situations in a manner that will protect the welfare of their animals.

He also plays a very important role in educating the youth of Champaign-Urbana.  He teaches programs in Humane Education at Champaign's Unit 4 Schools and his lesson plans have become part of the first-grade curriculum.

Clay is always there to help people out, whether they are community members, CCHS volunteers & staff, or students & teachers.  Thank you, Clay, for all that you do!
Volunteer of the Month:  Bruce Goettel

Bruce with a catBruce is both a dog socialization volunteer and an adoption counselor; two of our most challenging volunteer duties.  He brings the same dedication and affable nature to both jobs and handles them wonderfully.

Bruce is one of the very first dog socialization volunteers; he has consistently maintained a training schedule with the dogs - regardless of the weather conditions - because he knows consistent training is the key to success for the dogs.  Bruce is also one of our new adoption counselors.  The observations and experience he gains as a dog socialization volunteer make him especially helpful to patrons seeking just the right dog.  He is also a great help to the CCHS Adoption Staff.

Bruce always has a smile on his face, and is a pleasure to work with - for both people and dogs.  Thank you, Bruce!  We love having you here.
