Inspiring Youth Shows Importance of Recycling

Eleven-year-old "Eco-Erek" has done more than just start a local recycling program, he's kept nearly 10 tons of textiles out of landfills in just over 3 years. Pulling inspiration from an article in National Geographic Kids, Eco-Erek has generated a lot of buzz in Central Ohio with his annual Denim Drive - he even has his own web site dedicated to his efforts.

Boosting Businesses & Improving Communities

Creating a win-win situation for your community and local horticulture professionals can be as simple as forming a partnership. It's no secret that community beautification projects are contagious - when your yard looks fantastic it puts pressure on your neighbors to follow suit. And when everyone beautifies his or her yard, it follows that local growers and retailers see an increase in sales.

That's exactly how Jonesville, Michigan got its start in the America in Bloom program. C. Raker & Sons sponsored the town's entry fee and has helped lead the project.

The Color of the Landscape
By Marvin Miller, AIB President

One of the first lessons taught about color is that white is a combination of all colors. As such, winter's blanket of snow might be considered, at least in color theory, the most colorful time of the year for landscapes. For a gardener, perhaps, the snowy landscape might be the perfect inspiration to plan the spring and summer garden with the various colors yet to come.
