Jersey City's "Big Dig" Boasts Fantastic Results

Children planting flowers outside of the Jersey City Hall ended up planting more than they realized - they planted an idea in the mind of Jersey City Parks Coalition member Charlene Burke. An idea that flourished into more than 600 volunteers planting 18,000 tulip and daffodil bulbs at sites throughout the city.

U.S. Chamber of Commerce Boasts Benefits of Plants

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce has created a web site that serves as a resource on the environmental, human health, and economic benefits of plants. The "Lawn and Landscape Products web site" houses peer-reviewed studies on the benefits of plants and fosters a "virtual community" in which scientists and others may critique studies, offer opinions, and exchange information.

AIB Partners with Ball Hort to Showcase that Plants are More than Just "Pretty"

When you visit your local garden center next spring you may see America in Bloom helping to spread the message that plants are more than just "pretty." AIB and Ball Horticulture are collaborating to print informational signs that showcase the many benefits of flowers, plants, and trees. Retailers can download for free these powerful messages that can be used to share the important benefits of horticulture products. Not a retailer? No problem. View the bench cards anyway so you can start learning the benefits of plants.

AIB Judges to Host AHS Travel Study Program Garden Tour

Two AIB judges and board members are set to serve as hosts for the American Horticultural Society's (AHS) Travel Study Program Garden Tour, "Bold Colors and Exuberant Flowers: San Diego County." Evelyn Alemanni and Katy Moss Warner will guide participants through the exciting public landscapes and spectacular private gardens of southern coastal California from March 21-25, 2012. Trip highlights include a sneak preview of new plants being introduced to the horticultural trade at the California Spring Trials; a stop at the world-famous Flower Fields to view a stunning display of ranunculus; and a private tour of both the San Diego Zoo Safari Park and the San Diego Botanic Garden.

As Winter Approaches, Why Not Dream?
By Marvin Miller, AIB President

For many of you, winter may seem like it's already here. Perhaps cold weather has already settled in. For others, this fall has been long and mild by most standards. Here in the Midwest, we've just seen our first measureable snowfall, which came much later than normal, but two days back in the 40s have made it but a memory. Indeed, the real start of winter, at least according to the calendar, won't occur until later this week.
