Market Updates
kid eating raspberriesWow, apparently Mother Nature decided to answer the endless questions about whether or not we would have a summer this year--it's hot.

This Saturday is our second cooking demo of the season. Rachel Barron will be demonstrating how to make Fava Bean Salad with Chard & Pickled Spring Onions. Yum!

Also this Saturday is another opportunity to go on a walking tour with Hollywood architect, John Perkins. See below for more information.

This is the lastall kinds of berries Saturday to take photos for the Photo Contest! Email your entries by Wednesday, winners announced Saturday, July 17th at 11am.

Also, there were peaches, blueberries, and apricots at the market last week! Yes, summer is here.

See you at the Market!
cookingdemoCooking Demonstration with Rachel Barron
My name is Rachel Barron. I have cooked in some lovely, small, community minded restaurants around Portland for the past 7 years or so, places such as Navarre and Nostrana, where I was able to participate and feel energized by their attention to craft and the culture from where the food originated. I enjoyed making nourishing meals from local vegetables, grains and meats. We would get deliveries of the most beautiful fruits and vegetables I have ever seen, from farms such as Ayers Creek, 47th Avenue, Gales Meadow. I got to meet farmers and thank them for growing this food for us. At Nostrana I got to build a fire and make pizzas by it.  Work was thrilling.

Within the last year or so I decided that I wanted to work more closely with people and help them have the meals they wanted to eat.  Last winter I helped a lady have her wedding dinner party, and I loved meeting with her and helping to make the evening special. It motivated me to make a change with the way I work with food and people. As a cook you often feel removed from the people eating your food, and I wanted to remedy that for myself. I now work as a personal chef.

This Saturday, Rachel Barron demonstrates how to make Fava Bean Salad with Chard & Pickled Spring Onions. Cooking Demonstrations take place at the Musician's tent on Hancock Street at 9:45 and 10:45am on the 2nd Saturday of each month.
