Market Updates | It is 4th of July weekend and no matter where you go (or what the weather is like) grilling is in style.
All our vegetable growers will have something for your grill this Saturday. Summer squash, fennel bulbs, sweet onions--do we hear stomachs are growling? And don't forget about the salads! Potato salad, spinach-strawberry salad, asparagus salad, green salad - you name it, we've got the ingredients.
If you are a meat eater, there's no place like the Hollywood Farmers Market to find what you're looking for. You will find the highest quality pastured meats from Deck Family Farm--they have steaks that are out of this world and so much more. You can't beat the pork from Sweet Briar Farm--did you know you can order a whole pig to roast?! Yes, a whole pig. And Pine Mountain Ranch can provide you with buffalo burgers that say 4th of July like nothing else.
This weekend is also the great Recipe Give-Away! Stop by the Information Booth on the corner of 44th & Hancock and pick up free recipes featuring seasonal ingredients such as breakfast radishes, mint leaves, green garlic, chorizo and more! See you at the Market!

Friendly WIC Know-It-Alls Help Clarify Programs | Did you know that WIC Program participants can now use both Farm Direct coupons and Fruit and Vegetable Vouchers at Farmers Markets? The nice folks from the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (better known as the WIC Program) will be roaming the Hollywood Farmers Market this month to raise awareness about WIC and related programs, and to act as a resource for program participants. Just look for the people in the blue WIC aprons--they are friendly and they have answers.
WIC is a federally funded program administered by the State of Oregon, that focuses on promoting access of nutritious foods to low-income and nutritionally at-risk pregnant women and children.
