Recipe of the Week
Savory Raw Kale Salad
1-2 bunches kale (or collard greens)
1 tablespoon olive oil
2 cloves garlic, minced. Adjust to taste.
1/2 teaspoon salt
Feta Cheese
  • kaleAfter washing your hands, remove the kale stems and tear greens into smallish pieces.
  • Drizzle the kale with olive oil and sprinkle with salt.
  • Massage the kale with your fingers to soften it, then allow it to sit for 5-10 minutes.
  • Toss with desired amount of feta cheese (available at the market).
  • Allow to marinate for 10 minutes in order to allow kale to wilt.
  • Serve and enjoy!

Another Tip on Slugs
Don't like slugs but hate to see beer go to waste? Here's another helpful tip on how to deal with slugs from the folks at Gales Meadow Farm.

A good slug bait can be made from water and flour mixed to the consistency of heavy cream. Add yeast and a spoonful of sugar to get the yeast going. Pour it about an inch deep in deli containers sunk in the ground in your garden. We put them about 6 feet apart in our rows. The slugs will be attracted to the alcohol, crawl in, and die happy. Refresh the traps with a new mix about once a week or if it rains enough to fill the containers. We did a scientific experiment at Gales Meadow Farm and found that this mix attracted five times as many slugs as Coors Light.
