Market Updates
Thanks to everyone who came out to show your support on Opening Day!We had over 3,000 shoppers come to the market last Saturday and not a drop of rain fell, although it threatened.

The market got off to a great start and this Saturday will be no different. Alderman's Greenhouse & Nursery, Dancing Light Ranch, and ProFarm Produce all start this Saturday and Crista the Face Painter will be here too!

The weather is supposed to be sunny and we look forward to seeing you at the market!
Bring Your Mom to the Market  by Caryn Servis, HFM Volunteer
I believe most of us with mothers, grandmothers, and special women in our lives like to honor them 365 days a year. I also know that for most of us, the next few days will be a mad rush to find the perfect way to say "Happy Mother's Day!".

The Hollywood Farmers Market would like to take some of the pressure off by providing you with a few suggestions:

1. Bring your mother to the market! The Hollywood Farmers Market is a great Saturday morning outing for the entire family. Munch on prepared foods and baked goods while enjoying the sounds of the Cafe Cowboys. Hold mom's bags while she shops.

2. Give your mom Hollywood Farmers Market tokens! If mom can't make it this weekend, use your debit card at the Information Booth to purchase wooden tokens in $5 increments. Tokens can be used to purchase any product from your favorite market vendor and are good all season long. They make great gifts!

3. Shop for Mother's Day gifts at the market! Fresh-cut flowers from Herr's Family Farm will make her day. So will jams, vegetable starts, nursery items, and many other gifts you can find at the Hollywood Farmers Market.

4. Make a seasonal menu featuring products from the market! Whether it's brunch made with farm-fresh eggs, locally made cheeses and delicious veggies or dinner featuring hormone-free pork or succulent seafood, the creative cook in you will find the perfect dish. Choose ingredients from over 40 market vendors. Children love to assist with cooking too, so bring along your sous-chef!

Whatever you decide to do, we hope you will include the Hollywood Farmers Market in your Mother's Day weekend. We'd like to wish you, and the mothers of the Hollywood Farmers Market, a relaxing and enjoyable Mother's Day!

Tip of the Week - Slug Bait
Are slugs eating your lettuces or other garden starts? Control them organically with beer!

Pour beer into a shallow dish such as a jar lid.

Place the dish in your garden. You will need one container of beer for every 10 square feet of plantings.

The slugs are attracted to the beer and will climb into the trap and away from your plants.
