Market Updates
The Hollywood Farmers Market starts in just two days and everyone has been busy getting ready for Opening Day!

This way to the market!

Anne Berblinger of Gales Meadow Farm said that all week everyone at her farm has been preparing and getting excited about the start of the Hollywood Farmers Market. And with good reason, as there will be something for everyone at the market on Saturday.

New products to look for include artisan charcuterie from Olympic Provisions, savory refried beans from the Better Bean Company, and delicious microbrews from Captured by Porches Brewing. Of course there will also be old favorites such as Alsea Acre Alpines' goat cheese, Linda Brand Crab's fresh seafood, and all the baked goods you could desire including cupcakes from Confectionery.

We look forward to seeing you on Opening Day!

From heirloom tomatoes to unique and unusual varieties of asian vegetables, you'll be sure to find all you need at the market.
Basil Hint
basilBasil should not be planted outside until the nights are staying above 60F. In NE Portland, that means the middle of June at the earliest. If it is planted out sooner, it will not grow vigorously and will be extremely vulnerable to slugs.

If you do buy a basil plant at the market earlier, leave it in its pot or transplant it to a bigger pot, leave it in a sunny spot outside during the day, and take it inside at night. If you have a greenhouse or a south-facing window, you can keep it inside until the nights are warm enough.
