rhubarb up closeCan you believe it's almost time for the Hollywood Farmers Market (HFM) to open again?

We're quite excited and looking forward to another abundant season starting next Saturday, May 1st!

Please welcome new vendors Captured by Porches Brewing, ProFarm Produce (organic asparagus!), Lady Lane Farm with milk (and chocolate milk), and Olympic Provisions with artisan charcuterie. HFM favorite Sneakin' Out will be ringing in the first day of our 14th season, so bring your dancing-in-the-street shoes.

We are also proud to announce the kickoff our Fresh Funds program. Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) customers can now receive up to $5 in dollar-to-dollar matching funds when theoregon trail tokensy use their Oregon Trail card at the market. Bring your Oregon Trail card to the Information Booth to buy market tokens and receive up to $5 in matching tokens every market day. Thanks to a generous grant from New Seasons Market, the HFM Fresh Funds program will be available all season long. We will be sustaining this fund through customer donations. Please consider giving if you are able.

Caprial + Johnwill be at the Hollywood Farmers Market this season, answering questions about food, seasonality, and cooking. Look for them at the market twice a month this season starting May 15th.

This year's cooking demonstrations are hosted by Slow Food Portlandand will focus on affordable shopping at farmers markets and simple meals. The first demonstration will be June 12th.

New website coming soon! Keep your eye out for word on the new Hollywood Farmers Market website. The new site will have an interactive blog, in-depth vendor information, an pea podseasy-to-read calendar, and much more. There are plenty of ways to get involved with the Hollywood Farmers Market, including helping with set-up, break down, greeting, tabling the info booth, writing articles for The Local Dirt, and participating in special projects through committee work with board members.

Come learn about volunteer opportunities and help get the 2010 season off to a great start at the Volunteer Orientation & Market Rehearsal. We'll be meeting where the market usually takes place, on Hancock Street between NE 44th and 45th Avenues, right across from the Grocery Outlet parking lot. All are welcome.
