Assembling the Right Fundraising Team

Fundraising Team A good team is more than the sum of its parts. Whether it's a team of agents in a spy movie performing intricately timed tasks or a football team working together to advance the ball, teams need specific positions to get the job done -- and fundraising is no different. When recruiting volunteers and staff for a big fundraiser, it's important that everyone know their role. Here's an effective guideline to follow when assembling your team:
Supervisor: Starting from the top, the supervisor oversees the team, delegates the tasks, tracks status, and makes sure everyone's working together. Without a supervisor, things can get sidetracked really quickly.

Logistics Team: Where's the fundraiser going to be? What type of budget does it need? How many people are going to be there? From venue to catering to entertainment, logistical duties can fill up the time of several people. As long as they're all on the same page, they can quickly establish the who, what, where, when, and why of your fundraiser.

Publicity Team: You'll need a dedicated group that's committed to getting the word out. Whether it's flyers, phone calls, or local media, publicity is a must for a successful fundraiser. Anyone with experience in PR or marketing will be a great help, though sometimes all it takes is an enthusiastic and friendly attitude to get the word out.

Hands-On Service Team: Working a carwash? Waiting tables? There are many ways to hold a fundraiser, but the bottom line is that you need energetic and positive people hitting the floor when the actual fundraiser begins.

Obviously, each of these groups can be broken up into individual roles (e.g. treasurer and secretary for the logistics team). The key to a successful fundraiser is making sure that all of these roles are in place and communicate effectively to ensure that there are no holes to fill later down the line.
