Play by Play Hunt Report

25th Anniversary

June 11, 2012

Spring clean-up is the best way to describe this  WSI Play By Play, with an assortment of photos from spring turkey season, as well as some exotics that were taken during this most recent spring period.

Our spring turkey season was better than I anticipated. We found more gobblers than I expected, especially on our South Texas properties, we ended up taking more birds that were over 2 years of age than expected, and we also ended up with all of our hunters taking at least one bird. What was not surprising was the responsiveness of birds coming to a call.  In years where we have late winter moisture, which provides us with early spring green-up, the birds simply seem to be more in tune with their mating rituals. I cannot help but assume that the birds are more physiologically fit due to the green forages from the winter moisture, which must speak to their reproductive fitness, transforming into gobblers that are love-sick, vocal, and more willing to oblige their presence within range of 12 gauge turkey loads!

We have 3 great year-round hunting leases available, and you'll see some details listed in the body of this PBP. Each of these places are quality hunting properties and in the 25 years of being in this business, we have never personally marketed 3 better hunting leases at one time than these.

A couple of our guides and myself made a recent trip up for a quick scouting trip to look at our new pronghorn country in New Mexico and I am excited about the numbers of antelope and the quality of horns that we saw. We still have a few openings, so please let us know if you'd like to stalk some speed goats across the prairies of New Mexico.

Hope all is going well in your area. We have continued to receive some timely rainfall in many areas of Texas, so we are feeling upbeat about the prospects of a great fall hunting season. We are currently seeing lots of turkey poults, hearing some recent reports of people seeing some quail chicks, and the antlers appear to be more advanced and heavier than normal.

Don't be a stranger. Give us a shout or drop us a line if we can assist in any way.  We have a great WSI Play by Play lined up for you right here, so please click on the link below.
