The Thanksgiving Holiday Season is a time for fellowship, family, feasting on good food, rest, and taking in a few good football games, including Texas A&M University, later this week. The ancient origins of Thanksgiving have different roots and different meanings, depending upon the countries and cultures involved, but here in North America, Thanksgiving is generally traced back to 1621, with a celebration near the end of Plymouth colony's first year in America, when settlers gave thanks for a plentiful first harvest. Pilgrims and natives celebrated together, and everyone feasted on geese, ducks, corn, oysters, fish and berries.
Indeed, Thanksgiving and the hunters' harvest is very much interwoven in American history and culture, so this Holiday Season is also a special opportunity to enjoy some time afield, paying homage to a important event in American history, and pursuit of putting some game meat on the table.
As you will notice in this WSI Play By Play, we continue to enjoy some fruitfull hunts. Our clients have been taking many respectable animals, and you will also see a photo of a WSI record, in Greg Rutland's 244" monster whitetail buck taken on the Upper Oxbow Ranch.
Enjoy the photo's and snippits. And, may you and your's be blessed with safe travels and joyous Thanksgiving fellowship.
Cheers,
Your friends at WSI |

WSI 2010 Client Feedback
Greg,
I just want to say Thanks again for another memory making hunt with WSI. The food was great and the accommodations were more than adequate. My guide Rubin was very knowledgeable and made the whole experience that much more enjoyable, he was excellent. I was able to take a nice ten pointer and a great management buck also. I am already looking forward to a return trip next year. Until then stay well and have a great upcoming Holiday season. Sincerely. Peter Lynch

Springer Ranch
This is WSI's first year to hunt the Springer Ranch which is located in the lower Texas panhandle, and so far it has proven to be a good choice. Long time WSI client, Bob Custer brought his father Hubert, and daughter Aimee to Texas to pursue these panhandle whitetails. Needless to say they took care of business harvesting exceptional deer. Bob harvested a great 10 point that scored in the mid 130's but Aimee fired back with a typical ten of her own that sported split brow tines, making him a twelve point. But, not to be outdone, the patriarch of the family, Hubert, pulled a wild card and harvested a typical 9 point, sporting H1 measurements over 5 inches and a drop tine that measured over 9 inches in length.
Dear Greg...Happy Birthday. Here is a visual. In 10 years you may look like me. Big belly, soar knees, weak bladder etc.
Thanks for putting us on the Springer. It was a blast. Everything worked out well. Ruben May never be the same after spending a week with Aimee but I am sure he will recover till next year. I will be sending you some $ to reserve a spot for 2 next year. Bob Custer

S Ranch and Scrub Oak Ranch
We are wrapping up another successful year of hunts at the S Ranch and Scrub Oak Ranch. Long time WSI client Scott Zornes brought a couple of friends down, David Buck and Mike O'Leary, who gladly made the most of their time and opportunity by harvesting great whitetails, as did long time WSI client Richard May, who once again traveled from Hawaii to chase whitetails in Texas.

5 Gray Ranch
Welcome to our inaugural season to hunt the 5 Gray Ranch located in southwest Texas. The 5 Gray Ranch proved to be a excellent choice for father and son team, Herb and Terry Lord who were able to harvest two great whitetails with their archery equipment. Not to be outdone, hunting friends Joe Farlenza and Jim Hammond knocked down exceptional animals of their own. Look for this hunt to be featured on Real Hunts with Real Hunters in a couple of weeks.
DEAR GREG, I WANT TO THANK YOU FOR ARRANGING OUR HUNT AT 5 GRAY RANCH. I WAS OVERWHELMED BY THE WAY WE WERE TREATED. THE GRAY FAMILY TOOK US INTO THEIR HOME AND TREATED US AS IF WE WERE LONG LOST RELATIVES. I HAVE NEVER GONE ANYWHERE AND BECOME SO COMFORTABLE SO QUICKLY. AFTER JUST 2 HOURS THERE WE ALL SEEMED LIKE OLD FRIENDS. OUR COOK DAVE WAS AMAZING. THE MEALS HE PREPARED DESERVE 5 STARS. HAD I STAYED THERE ANY LONGER I WOULD HAVE HAD TO RENEW MY GYM MEMBERSHIP IN ORDER TO SLIM DOWN. OUR CAMERAMAN BEN WAS A JOY TO BE AROUND, HE IS A YOUNG GO GETTER AND QUITE A CHARACTER. HE SHOWS LOTS OF PROMISE FOR A VERY YOUNG MAN.SEAN GRAY IS AN INTELLIGENT RESPECTFUL AND DOWN TO EARTH MAN. HE WILL GO FAR IN HIS PROFESSION.MY GUIDE MIKE WAS THE REASON THAT I CAME HOME WITH THE NICEST DEER I HAVE EVER TAKEN. WE BONDED QUICKLY AND HAD NO TROUBLE SPENDING HOURS UPON HOURS TOGETHER IN A BOX BLIND.HIS LOVE FOR HIS JOB IS UNQUESTIONED AND HIS LOYALTY TO WSI IS UNCHALLENGED. ALTHOUGH I ONLY SPENT 6 DAYS WITH HIM I CONSIDER HIM A CLOSE FRIEND. HOPEFULLY WE CAN HUNT TOGETHER AGAIN.I CAN GO ON AND ON BUT I THINK YOU GET THE IDEA THAT I HAD A GREAT TIME OUT THERE.I WILL CONTACT YOU SOON TO SEE WHAT WE CAN DO IN THE FUTURE. HOPEFULLY SOMETHING AT 5 GRAY RANCH.P.S THE ALARM CLOCK WAS A TERRIFIC IDEA, YOU KNOW YOUR STUFF. WE WERE ALSO THRILLED TO BE VIDEOTAPED ANOTHER EXTRA FROM WSI. LET ME CLOSE BY SAYING THAT THE ONLY THING BETTER THAN HUNTING WHITETAILS IN TEXAS IS HUNTING WHITETAILS IN TEXAS WITH WILDLIFE SYSTEMS. THANKS AGAIN JIM HAMMOND CLIFTON N.J.

Upper Oxbow Ranch
We are wrapping up hunts at the Upper Oxbow Ranch for the 2010 season and what a great season it was. Hunters Greg Rutland and Jerry Youngblood both took home exceptional animals. David Lichenstein, not in the photo, also harvested a great "classic" whitetail from the Upper Oxbow during this same hunt.

La Joya Ranch
One more nilgai bull down at the H. Yturria Ranch. Typically, the majority of our nilgai hunts are conducted in late winter and early spring but Ronnie was able to spare some time and sneaked in for a quick hunt in November.
