MIDLAND MOMENTS OF THE WEEK
Baby Ninos: Congratulations Johnny and Ashleigh Ninos! On Sunday, Ashleigh gave birth to Finley John Ninos at 2:45 PM. He weighed 7 lbs 2 oz and was 20" long at birth.
Guest Speaker: Thanks to Kate McCurdy, Sedgwick Reserve Director, who spoke at Midland on Sunday evening about the Sedgwick Reserve (adjacent to Midland's property) and wildlife management. Midland Featured on the Local News: On Tuesday, Lise Goddard and seniors Miles Dakin, Diego Marcogliese and Emma Lichtwardt spoke about Midland's solar installations and wind power project and were
on the local news!
Common Ground Service Club Hosts Fundraiser Dance:
Midland School's service club, Common Ground, held a fundraiser dance Tuesday night, to introduce the entire student body to what Common Ground is, and more importantly, to learn about service projects. The evening dance served as a vehicle to have students and faculty contribute small and big amounts of change to provide funds for an organization called " We the Change Foundation."
New Website Launch: Midland's new website (same address:
www.midland-school.org) will be launched this evening and should be completed by the end of the weekend. We hope you spend some time getting acquainted with the new website, which will continue to be a work in progress. Thanks to faculty, students, parents and alums who provided feedback during the design process.
Sports: The Midland Girls' Volleyball team plays Oak Grove tomorrow at Midland (JV at 3 PM and V at 4 PM). Go Oaks! Boys' Cross Country placed 2nd and Girls' placed 3rd at the Condor League meet at Thacher on Wednesday. Midland hosts the next league meet next Wednesday.
IMPORTANT- OCTOBER BREAK TRAVEL:Please confirm student travel plans with your child's advisor no later than Friday, October 12th.
Break begins: Saturday, October 20 at 8AM
Break ends: Sunday, October 28 at 6PM
Midland provides transportation for reservations to and from Santa Barbara on Saturday ONLY. Students may also depart on the Solvang AMTRAK bus on Saturday.
Reservations should be scheduled 8AM or later. Earlier reservations are not accommodated.
Returning students must arrive on campus on Sunday in time for the 6PM Assembly.
If you are picking up your child from Midland, you may do so on Friday evening after the 6PM Assembly. Friday early departure is allowed exclusively for parents picking up students. There is no transportation into Santa Barbara for reservations until Saturday at 8AM when break officially begins.
