Midland Featured as EE Ford Foundation Project of Interest
"A number of schools have developed projects with support from the EE Ford Foundation that clearly deserve a wide audience. In different and significant ways these projects are innovative and contain elements that might be reproduced by others. Even if they are not immediately relevant in that way, they seem to us to offer experiences from which others can learn." - EE Ford website

 | Outdoor Leadership Camps at Eastern Sierra
|
 | | Crossing a stream |
September 22 - 25, the students in Outdoor Leadership took a trip to the high Sierra. Derek Harwell '88 reports, "On Saturday night we drove up to the Eastern Sierra where we camped below Mt. Whitney (the highest peak in the lower 48). The next morning we drove to Horseshoe Meadow and hiked into the backcountry for a three day trip. We encountered cold temperatures and strong winds which forced us to camp lower down than we had originally intended. Despite this, we had a wonderful time camping in the Foxtail Pine/Lodgepole Pine forest with an excursion to the 11,000 ft Cottonwood Lakes Basin."

| | Film by Midland Faculty Member | Paul Gelles, Spanish teacher at Midland School, is currently making a documentary film. Transnational Fiesta: Twenty Years Later is a sequel to a film he made 20 years ago, a film that won awards and was purchased by over 160 universities. The new film revisits an indigenous community in Peru, its migrant colony in the Washington DC area, and a spectacular fiesta in the Andes put on by one of the DC-based migrants. Click here to see a four minute video clip that is a sample of the new film. Kickstarter.com is a "crowd funding" website that helps creative projects get funded and which offers rewards to those who donate.
