  • State of the School: Today and tomorrow, Board members Mike Babcock and Pam Doiron are meeting with faculty members and students in order to obtain feedback about the current state of the school. This helps the Board learn about the school climate and culture, as well as gain insight for setting future goals.
  • Guest Speaker Dan Miller Talks About Climate Change: On Sunday, February 26, Dan Miller, friend of Midland alumnus Sheafe Ewing '50, gave a fascinating talk on global warming and climate change titled "Boom or Bust? Climate Change Risks and Opportunities." Miller, who invests in green technology companies, spoke of the impending global crisis, presenting hard data to support his view that the future looks bleak unless we do something about it right away. Miller held the students' attention for well over an hour and the questions that were posed by them demonstrated that they were engaged and interested.
  • Test Taking 101: What does it look like when Midland students take exams? Aside from the usual in-class exam situation, there will be an occasional class that takes an exam al fresco. Students in Laurie and Ben Munger's '79 Midland 101 class took an exam outside in Middle Yard this week.
  • Thinking Beyond Borders: Robin Pendoley, a representative from Thinking Beyond Borders, visited Midland on Wednesday to meet with students interested in this incredible gap year program that affords students the opportunity to travel and work around the world. 5 Midland alums have participated so far in the program. Julia Jones, daughter of Debbie Jones, Midland's Director of Alumni/ae Affairs, is currently in the program.
  • Summer Internship Program Award: Congratulations to Diego Marcogliese '13 on being selected as the recipient of this year's Summer Internship Program Award!  The internship is an opportunity for a Midland junior with a demonstrated interest in a subject to pursue an intensive and serious examination of that subject during the summer prior to the senior year. Diego will attend a summer program called  The Fundamentals of Economics at Georgetown University.
  • Board of Trustees Meeting: As students departed campus for Winter Break, Trustees gathered at Midland for the Winter Board meeting.  There was time to work and review the school year; there was also time to socialize with faculty over a magnificent Mexican dinner in Stillman prepared by Gloria and Mike Murillo  Click here to see photos.
