MIDLAND MINUTES
  • Main House Renovations: Over the Holiday Break, Main House received some much needed TLC. New floors were put in downstairs, new stairs were installed, the walls and front doors were painted, and we now have a wonderful new reception room to welcome families and friends. Be sure to take a look on your next visit to campus!
  • Fruit and Veggie Rescue: Santa Ynez Valley Fruit and Vegetable Rescue harvested 16 cases of lettuce over the Holiday Break to distribute to Casa Esperanza in Santa Barbara. The group works with local farmers to bring excess crops to those in need locally. We hope to continue to work with SYV Fruit and Vegetable Rescue when we can't use all of the food we have grown on the Midland Farm directly for the school.
  • Adventures Among the Wild(ish) Mustangs: Return to Freedom Sanctuary in Lompoc, CA is dedicated to preserving the diversity and habitat of America's wild horses. On a bright winter afternoon in November, Heads of Horses Becca Rantanen '12 and Alba DeCarlo '12 hosted a horse-themed field trip to the sanctuary.
  • Midland 102 Students Plant Lettuce: Students in Midland 102 planted lettuce this week and ran the irrigation tape to set up the irrigation system. Ben Munger '79 and Katie Isaacson instructed the students on spacing and how to plant properly.
  • Class of 2011 Alums Visit: Mariah Chen, Rachel Featherstone and Kaya Lindsay visited Midland this week, and Rachel and Kaya even climbed Grass Mountain on Wednesday.

  • Minutes from Parent Gathering in November:  Several parents met the Friday evening after Thanksgiving at the Skyview Motel in order to connect and share with one another. Click here to read the Minutes from the gathering.
  • Goodbye Dear Unicorn: In early 1997, a white Arabian gelding, Aladdin, from Morro Bay found his way to Midland School. Aladdin adapted well to the Midland pastures and the other horses. Aladdin's advanced age caught up with him this winter and he lay down for the last time in the tall, green grass.
