- All Saints Day: On Monday, Mr. Graham announced that it was an "All Saints Day" where classes were canceled, and students and faculty members were encouraged to explore Midland's property, which they did - in every direction!

- Self Mapping: The 9th graders have been busy in their Midland 102 class, both indoors and out. As a part of the Health and Wellness section, each student created a life sized representation of themselves. Their work was a mix of both self exploration and artistic creative process.
- Visit to the Pasadena Waldorf School: Will and Marguerite Graham attended the Pasadena Waldorf School Elves' Fair on November 19th, with current Midland students Emma Lichtwardt '13, Jordan Swidenbank '15 and Keenan Blough '13, who are PWS alumni/ae as well as ambassadors for Midland's admissions office.
- Midland Stories: On Sunday evening, Peter Coonradt '64 introduced "Midland Stories," his second film of Midland, to students and faculty members. Click here to view "Midland Stories."
- New Shrubs Planted: Partnering with the Xerxes Society, Midland School planted 60 shrubs and a plot of forbs to attract beneficial insects which are important for pollination on the school's farm. The Xerxes Society has been improving habitat for invertebrates for over 40 years. Students in Conservation and Agriculture class and who participate in Farm in the afternoon helped plant the hedgerow. Pebbles Gonzalez '13, Gillian Beery-Beesley '12, Miles Dakin '13, Kendrick Holmes '12, Ashley Johnson '13, and Lalo Rodriguez '15 helped with project. The Cachuma Resource District is also a partner in the project and will help in monitoring bloom times and plant success.
- Admissions Travel: This week, Amy Graham, Director of Admissions and Financial Aid, traveled to San Francisco and Marin county to visit schools and educational consultants.
- Financial Aid: Click here for application directions for new and returning families interested in applying for financial aid for the 2012-2013 school year. The financial aid application deadline is February 15. The online financial aid application will be available starting January 1, 2012 at www.sss.nais.org/parents. - Holiday Break Travel December 17th to January 8th: Friday night before break is the Winter Banquet which is for students and faculty exclusively. Students being picked up by parents will be ready for pickup after 8:30 PM on Friday, December 16th. All students not being picked up by parents should plan to leave on Saturday Dec. 17th after 8:00 AM from Santa Barbara. There are no shuttles to Santa Barbara on Friday. Please send travel plans to your child's advisor.

Girls' Soccer: The girls played Orcutt Academy on Wednesday. Click here for photos. Boys' Soccer: The Boys' Varsity team won its first match, 3-2, at Orcutt Academy on Wednesday. Irvin Alvarez '12 opened the scoring with a first-half penalty kick, and Sae Young Yeo '12, soon made it 2-0 with a composed finish after assists from Thomas Brand '14 and Marcus Schmidt '12. After Orcutt closed to 2-1 just before halftime, Brand added another goal in the 55th minute, and the Oaks hung on to win despite surrendering 20 shots and 13 corner kicks, one of which led to Orcutt's second goal. Emmet Yeazell '13 made five saves in his debut as a goalkeeper, and two freshmen - Bryce Bryant and Sean Cummings - played well in central defense. Basketball: Midland defeated Coastal Christian from Arroyo Grande 68 to 38. Leading scores for Midland, Shane Williams '12 had 23 points, and Luke Carpenter '12 had 17, while Kendrick Holmes '12 had 10 rebounds.
