A Chapel Plaque to Honor Barry Schuyler '41
Barry Schuyler plaque
Barry Schuyler '41 plaque
Old history was brought to light and new history was recently made at Midland, with the hanging of a copper plaque this month to honor Barry Schuyler '41, the first plaque in over 50 years to be hung on the back wall of the Chapel.

Click here to read an article about the plaque and the history of previous plaques, written by Lise Goddard, Director of Environmental Programs.

* Does anyone have any memory of seeing the plaques for John Wilgress and Alexander Hemsley Wood on the Chapel wall, and if so, did you see them in the original Chapel or in the Chapel as it was rebuilt in the 1960s by Vic Bryant?  Please reply to this email if you have any information about the 2 plaques. Thank you!

Project Healthy Neighbors
Midland seniors Lily Brand, Alba DeCarlo, Savannah Cooley, Tevita Mafi, Kendrick Holmes, Becca Rantanen and Ellen Rafferty with Ken Williams at Project Healthy Neighbors

For the third year in a row, Midland students and faculty members volunteered at Project Healthy Neighbors. Organized by Ken Williams, father of Shane Williams '12, the project provided hundreds of people outside the Casa Esperanza shelter in Santa Barbara with clothing, flu shots, tuberculosis screenings, drug and alcohol counseling and even dental care, and helped the homeless prepare for winter weather.

David Levasheff '71 announced his retirement as of September 27, 2011. He shares, "I started my career in 1976 as an engineer at PBS station KEET in Eureka CA. Joined Burroughs Corp. in 1978 in the product evaluation department. Moved on to Ma-Com Corp. in 1981 for 9 months then on to Hughes Aircraft's Santa Barbara Research Center in 1982 as an instrumentation Software and Integration Engineer for Test and Process Control systems. After Raytheon purchased SBRC in 1998, I took a position at Calient Networks working on tests for MEMS Optical Switching systems in 2000. The Telcom bust of 2001-2 eventually forced me to returned to Raytheon in 2003. After 27 years at Raytheon...you will be able to find me avidly birding around Santa Barbara County, and traveling to all points far and wide. I have also volunteered to be the Webmaster of the Santa Barbara Audubon website, so you can also find me there at santabarbaraaudubon.org."

Matt Clegg '05 is playing bass in a band called "Groove Shoes." Music has become his passion. The band released a CD a few months ago, is getting lots of gigs along the Eastern seaboard, and making a name for itself. The music is a mix of Jazz/Soul/Funk/Groove/R&B/Hip-Hop.
