MIDLAND MINUTES
  • Midland's Seventh Annual Round-Up: All current families are invited to join us for this year's Round-Up on October 1-2. This is our first event on campus where families have a chance to participate in Midland activities.  See the invitation.

  • New Members on Midland's Board of Trustees: Midland's Board of Trustees meets three times a year on campus, where they're able to spend some time with students in addition to making important decisions for Midland's present and future. For the 2011-12 school year, we welcome Cymbre Thomas '03 and Ruth Fisher.

  • Fire Crew Volunteer Trip: The Midland Fire Crew volunteered to work on the Sierra National Forest clearing trails in the Ansel Adams Wilderness for three days. The crew, consisting of Omavi Quadir '14, David Salehpour '14, Miguel Provencio '13, Miles Dakin '13, and Juan Mesones '13, with faculty members Ben Munger '79 and Cory Cramer, backpacked in seven miles and set up a camp to work on the Timber Creek Trail. Trail clearing was done with cross-cut saws, axes, and in special cases, a come-along. The crew accomplished all of the work safely and had a very good time.

  • Cross Country Trip to the Sierras: Cross country runners went on a long weekend trip to the Sierras where they hiked, camped, and captured photographs of breathtaking views. The students who went were seniors Peter King, Marcus Schmidt, Luke Carpenter, Merlin Plumbley, Phoebe Stokes, Lily Brand and Selena Wrightson. Faculty members on the trip were Don and Jill Redl, Derek Harwell '88 and Johnny Ninos.

  • September Harvest in the Garden: This week Katie Isaacson was in the garden picking tomatoes, tomatillos and peppers.  Click here to see photos of the wonderful produce.

  • Horse Barn "Installation": Several years ago, local equine veterinarian Dr. Chris Pankau dismantled and donated an MD brand pre-fabricated barn to Midland. In early September, panels from this building were used to build stalls inside Midland's beautiful redwood barn. These stalls will make it possible to quarantine new horses, or tend to sick or injured horses. Saddles and bridles were moved across the alleyway and into a brand new tack room, also constructed this past summer by Jim Quick's '68 amazing crew.

  • Carrot Farm: Read Carrot Farm: A Midland Farm and Garden Story, by Ben Munger '79.

  • Midland 102 Scavenger Hunt: On Wednesday, September 21st, Midland 102 students participated in a scavenger hunt that had them searching all throughout the campus for faculty members and clues.

  • International Students and Families: Please contact Jill Brady with your US contact (guardian) or consultant contact information, as well as your travel plans for the Fall Break (October 22 - 30). Thank you!
