- Start-Up Business Talk: On Thursday, local entrepreneur Linda Miller visited Don Redl's Financial Economics and Investing class in order to share the details of her new social media start-up company. Linda is in the process of raising venture capital in her new business and she generously shared many of the details with the students that she shares with potential investors: the beta-version of her new product, her business model, and financial projections, in order to help them better understand the rewards and challenges of starting a new company.
- Midland's Experiential Week: Experiential Week is right around the corner from March 28 - April 1. Each class will spend the time participating in hands-on learning activities. Learn more about Experiential Week and plans for each class.
- Historical Figures Visit Midland: On Thursday, in American Studies taught by Ian Cummings, the juniors came to class as historical figures significant to the period 1877-1920. Each delivered a speech on the legitimacy of the American Dream and the government's appropriate role in fostering it. We heard from anarchists, socialists, industrial tycoons, civil rights leaders, and naturalists, all of whom reminded us that the national conversation of a century ago was in many ways similar to today's.
- Geology Class Trip: This past weekend, Laurie Munger's Geology class drove to Nira, along the Manzana Creek, and hiked three miles upstream to Fish Creek Camp. Laurie reports, "We conducted a stream survey just upstream from the campground. It was a beautiful day, temperatures in the low 80s, and besides working in the stream bed, we encountered 45 UCSB students camped at Fish Creek - it looked like a small tent village!" Midland seniors Daniel Nimmo, Estevan Murillo, Mara Gabriel, Nessa Ryan, Eliad Becker, Riley Martin and Wes Harting went on the trip.

- Springtime Gardening: The garden is springing with flowers and plenty of growth after the rains. Artichokes, volunteers and student gardens are putting on a show. Click here to see photos.
- Trip Shed: The trip shed that is used to store camping gear and Outdoor Leadership equipment has been renovated and reorganized. The improvements were due mainly to the hard work of Juan Zepeda. Click here to see photos.
- Optical Physics: Students in Roddy Taylor's Physics class learned about the properties of lenses and applied what they learned by taking a look through them outside the classroom on Wednesday.
- Solvang Theater Set to Re-Open: The opening event for the much anticipated revival of a long-shuttered Solvang theater will be: THE LAKERS - Four New Works by Gerald DiPego, debuting Sunday, March 20th in the old Petersen Theater, now called "Manny's Upstairs Theater" directly above Manny's restaurant at 1693 Mission Drive, Solvang. A benefit for ARTS OUTREACH, THE LAKERS will be performed by DiPego who will be joined by several actors, including Midland's own Ian Cummings. The Sunday show has sold out, but a second show has been added for Friday the 18th. Click here for more information.
- Green Shorts Film Fest Contest: Students can write, produce, direct, edit and/or score their own original short film (1 - 2 minutes) for a video contest about saving our planet, helping our environment and being green. This year's Earth Day and contest theme is "Powered by the People."
- Athletics: Lacrosse - The first game is today when the boys play York at home at 3:30 PM. See Midland's sports section online for the Lacrosse schedules and updated photographs.
