MIDLAND MINUTES
  • Midland Basketball Team Makes Midland History!  Congratulations to the Midland basketball team on an incredible season! Midland lost in the CIF quarterfinals, 74-53, but not before making Midland history!  The entire school went to cheer on the Oaks at the quarterfinal game that was held at Santa Ynez High School. • Mindfulness: Marguerite Graham is teaching a popular new class this semester called "Mindfulness: The Freedom to Excel." What happens when students in a boarding school community are invited to explore mindfulness practices? That's the question Marguerite investigates with students in her class this year as she pursues her interest in contemplative practices and meditation, most recently studying Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction at the University of Massachusetts's Medical School's Center for Mindfulness in Healthcare, Medicine and Society, founded by Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn.
  • Garden in Winter: Katie Isaacson has been pruning the fruit trees while her dog Lola keeps an eye on the new pigs.

  • New Hitching Rails: This week, Celeste Carlisle, Katie Isaacson, Gillian Kinnear '04 and Ben Munger '79 installed new hitching rails by the Horse Barn. Sad as it was to say goodbye to the weathered wooden posts outside of the big, redwood barn (filled with acorns by ever-present woodpeckers), it was time to shore up the hitching racks.
  • Faculty/Student Soccer Challenge: On Thursday, February 24, Midland faculty members challenged Midland students to a soccer match. The game was played for the newly created (by Jose Juan Ibarra '87) Faculty-Student Cup, and was a fun-filled event as several faculty members donned unique uniforms, although that didn't keep the students from winning, 4-1.

  • Wild Horses: The Foal Training Class was featured in the Santa Ynez Valley Journal.
  • Love Your Library: February is Love Your Library Month. Please support Midland's Library by purchasing books on the Midland School Book Wish List.
  • Athletics: Lacrosse season is here.   See Midland's sports section online for the Lacrosse schedules and updated photographs.
