Junior Class Fundraising: At next weekend's Round-Up, the junior class will be selling various goodies and will hold a raffle to help raise funds for their trip to Mascota this year. Cash, checks and credit cards will be accepted. Thank you in advance for your support!
Private Music Lessons: See the flyer about private music lessons at Midland. English Nine: The Literature of Place class taught by Cory Cramer worked with Celeste Carlisle and Gillian Kinnear '04 of the
equestrian faculty on Thursday, learning about targeted observation skills in
nature writing. Students observed the social interactions of the horses
in the Midland herd to gain a sense for the challenges and skills
associated with observing and writing about natural processes in the
field. This ties into their reading of The Island of the Blue Dolphins as part of their Sense of Place Unit. - Faculty Horseback Ride: On Thursday, faculty members Donna Williams, Paul Gelles, Marguerite Graham and Jill Brady joined Celeste and Gillian on a "Faculty Ride." The Equestrian Program includes integrating faculty members into the mix to better understand and appreciate the program. Thank you Celeste and Gillian!
- Visit from Field to Kitchen Class (SB City College Adult Ed): See some photos of Midland classes.
- Choir Club: Several students met with Amy Carroll, who will be directing Midland singers in chosen songs. They hope to perform at Thanksgiving.
- Equestrian Field Trip: On Monday, the Fall riders took a break from riding their faithful steeds
and went on a tour of the Alamo Pintado Equine Medical Center located
here in Los Olivos. Christina Barnes led a wonderful tour showing them
the Hyperbaric Chamber, Aquatred, the state-of-the-art bone scanner, MRI
and CAT scan machines. It was a great opportunity to see where sick or
injured horses go to get treatment. Stay tuned for upcoming
trips: Quicksilver Farms, Inland Equine, Santa Ynez Feed and Milling Co.,
and much, much more.
- Cooking Class Visits Midland: Santa Barbara Adult Ed class "Farm to Table" visited Midland on Thursday. Karen Readey welcomed the group of 30, and Katie Isaacson toured the enthusiastic bunch through our garden. They were interested in learning about how our community integrates our garden and kitchen.
- Would You Like to be a Host Family? We are seeking families of juniors and seniors to host students from Mascota, Mexico in October. See the letter from Jose Juan Ibarra '87.
