Welcome! The purpose of the Midland Minutes
is to connect with our extended family by
sharing brief summaries of events that
occurred during the week at Midland. We will
also be sending monthly e-newsletters with
more detailed information, articles and
photos - look for our first edition in a few
weeks. And remember to check our website for
updates:

IMPORTANT: If you do not wish to
receive ANY
email correspondence from Midland, then
please use the "SafeUnsubscribe" link at the

- School Prefects: Congratulations to Mariah Chen and Shue Him Lau, our 2010-11 School Prefects!
- New Faculty Members: Midland is excited to welcome some new faculty
members this year - they are enthusiastic, talented and already right at
home. The new faculty members are Wally Long, Director of Admissions and Financial Aid, Celeste Carlisle, Director of the Equestrian Program, Derek Harwell '88, Director of Outdoor Programs, Anthony Harvey '04, Director of the Theatre Program, Cory Cramer, English teacher, Roddy Taylor, Math teacher, and Noe Ferreira, Spanish teacher. All faculty members participated in a training on neurodevelopment in August.
- Opening Days went smoothly and classes are in full swing. After classes on Monday, we enjoyed an all-school activity on the field. We're looking forward to an
incredible year!
See photos.
- Marine Biology Trip: Taking advantage of a decent low tide, the Marine Biology class taught
by Lise and Jeff Goddard took an afternoon trip to Gaviota State Park on
Tuesday, the second day of classes, where they observed and learned
about some of the common sandy beach and rocky intertidal invertebrates
on our coast.
- From Garden to Kitchen: Ben Munger '79 and Katie Isaacson are doing a phenomenal job with Midland's organic garden. Katie updates a chalkboard in Stillman each day with the fresh produce that we enjoy in our meals.
- Would You Like to be a Host Family? We are seeking families of juniors and seniors to host students from Mascota, Mexico in October. See the letter from Jose Juan Ibarra '87.
