MIDLAND MINUTES

  • San Francisco Gathering: For those who live in the Bay area, please join us on Friday, February 5th, for our Alumni, Parents and Friends Gathering.

  • WASC Accreditation: This past Sunday - Tuesday, committee members from the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) Commission came to Midland's campus and met with faculty and students for our next 6-year accreditation. Overall, the visit went well and we will receive their full report in June.

  • Holiday Ride: On January 2nd, Derek and Martina Svennungsen hosted the fifth annual Holiday Ride on Midland property.  Joined by approximately 40 riders from the greater Valley community, the riders met at the Drum Flats and headed out for a three hour journey that wrapped around Midland's gorgeous, scenic and rugged trails.  Safe and fun times were had by all and the Svennungsens hope to follow up with a Spring Ride later this year.  See photos of the ride.

  • Movie-Goers: On Tuesday evening, Shawn McVicar took several students to see Avatar in 3D.

  • This past Sunday, Martina Svennungsen rode with the Santa Ynez Valley Hounds for a fox hunt on Buell Ranch. After being invited on a few hunts last year, Martina decided to join as a professional member, which she hopes to take advantage of throughout the hunting season.  Martina states, "In addition to riding with a group of amazing equestrians, I hope to take the opportunity to expose a select few Midland riders to a long-standing riding tradition.  Some of the current Hound members have shared stories of how Midland used to host hunts some 25 years ago with fond memories of students participating back then as well.  It truly is a unique opportunity to take part in."
