Happy New Year from Midland School!
|
- Midland on TV: Watch the Midland School video by Peter Coonradt '64 on local public access Channel 21 this month! See the schedule.
- JunJie Zhao '11 rejoined the community after an extended stay in China with his ailing mother. Welcome back, JunJie!
- Pacific Coast Runner: Congratulations to Midland teacher and Cross Country coach, Jill Redl,
for placing 3rd overall in her age group in the 2009 Pacific Coast
Trail Run Southern/Central California Trail Series! The Trail Series
awards points throughout the year based on race performances in various
trail runs in the state. Jill finished third in her age group in two races last year: a 12km run in Montana de Oro State Park and a 18km run
in the Santa Monica mountains.
- WASC Accreditation: This coming Sunday - Tuesday, committee members from the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) Commission will be on Midland's campus to meet with faculty and students for our next 6-year accreditation.
- Earthwatch Fellowships: Each year, Earthwatch's Fellowship
Programs enable hundreds of students, teachers, conservation professionals, and corporate employees to join expeditions at little or no out-of-pocket expense. Learn more about the expeditions.
- Athletics:
Soccer: Although Boys and Girls JV and Varsity teams lost on Wednesday, Beau Lino '10 did a fantastic job at keeping Cate's superstar player from Ghana "marked" and therefore limited his scoring ability. Boys Varsity and JV teams play at Dunn today at 3:30 PM. Basketball: JV lost to Cate, but played a great second half in their first game of the season. Kirby Kersels '13 had some huge blocks, and Charlie Lehman '13 and Eliad Becker '11 shouldered the offensive load. Varsity played a tough game against Cate, running out of gas with four minutes left and losing, 50-42. Gus Dene '10 hit three 3-pointers, and the team played very well together, considering they haven't had a game (and only one practice!) since early December. See the Sports Schedule.
