  • Geology Trip: October 4-6, Laurie Munger and Geology students and seniors Heather Waldroup, Libang Shi, Nico Palleroni and Zhiyuan Huang went to Mono Lake area to look at the igneous rocks. 

  • Chemistry Camping Trip: Tonight, Lise Goddard and Chris Rea are bringing the Chemistry students on an overnight camping trip up the Alamo Pintado Creek to do water testing for Chemistry class.

  • Host Students: As part of the cultural exchange program with students from Mascota, Mexico, Midland students will be hosting our visitors from Mascota October 16th-30th. The following Midland juniors will be hosting: Martin Huerta,
    Estevan Murillo, Riley Martin, Savannah Bryant, Rachel Featherstone, Nessa Ryan,
    Ruby Goldberg and Marcus Schmidt.

  • Congratulations to William Johnston-Carter '10 on being named a Commended Student in the 2010 National Merit Scholarship Program!
  • Athletics:
    Cross-Country: On Wednesday, Midland competed in the second Condor League meet. Phoebe Stokes '12, Tammy Yang '10 and Evan Kidd '11 each earned a top-ten spot in their races again this week. The boys' team placed second behind Thacher while the girls' team placed fourth ahead of Dunn. Kaya Lindsay '11, Renata Lozito '13 and Nessa Ryan '11 made significant personal improvements when their team needed it most. Next Wednesday, Midland will host Orcutt Academy for a friendly dual meet involving only the freshmen and sophomores. 

  • Volleyball: Last Friday, both JV and Varsity lost their games to Valley Christian. On Saturday against OVS, JV lost and Varsity won: 25-16, 26-28, 25-15, 25-10. JV beat Dunn on Wednesday and Varsity lost. JV plays at Orcutt today at 4:30 PM. See photos v. Dunn at SB Pix.
    * Tomorrow's games against Besant Hill will be played at OVS.
  • Midland's Own Coffee: The junior class each year raises money for the cultural exchange trip to Mascota, Mexico. The juniors started fundraising this year at Round-Up. They are now taking orders for coffee. Each bag is 12 oz. with freshly roasted whole bean fair trade coffee. $15 each. You can order now and have great gifts for the holidays.  Orders must be in by Monday, October 12th to be taken home for Fall Break. You can charge your order to your Midland account.   • Flamenco: Wednesday, Paul Gelles and  Anthony Harvey took 13 Midland students to see the Hispanic Flamenco Ballet in Santa Monica. Riley Martin '11 and Meghan Brown '12 joined several students from other high schools on stage to perform a dance! It was a great time for all.
                
  • Join us in LA! Midland's Los Angeles Gathering for Parents, Alumni and Friends is Friday, October 30th.

  • Fall Break Travel Plans: Please be sure to let Jill Brady know ASAP of each student's travel plans over the break - the sooner the better for coordinating shuttles, etc. Thank you!
