Class Elections: The following
students have been chosen as president of
their respective classes: Gus Dene (senior),
Evan Kidd (junior), Marcus Schmidt
(sophomore), Diego Marcogliese (freshman). They
will all serve on the Student-Faculty Council
for the fall semester along with the two
School Prefects, and Mara Gabriel, the
junior-at-large representative, nominated by
the seniors.

Birthday Celebration: Students
celebrated JunJie's 18th birthday at the
Svennungsen's house, and seniors Libang and
Yuchen cooked the dinner. See photos from
the celebration as well as photos of students
"doing more at Midland" in our September photo album.

Midland 102 students have been making
their own garden plots in Midland's 8-acre
organic garden. The students will
tend their
plots throughout the year. Rob Hopkinson and
Hayley Anson teach the course, new this year
at Midland.

Tarantula Makes an Announcement at
Assembly: On Monday, a tarantula walked
into the middle of the assembly prior to
lunch. It was shown respect and carefully
placed back into the woods away from Middle Yard.

Welcome Anthony, Katie and Dr.
Schulman! Joining Midland's faculty this
year are Anthony Harvey '04, Midland's
Intern, who graduated from Willamette
University, will assist with the drama
program, cooking and various other projects;
Katie Isaacson, a graduate of Thacher and
Colby College, will be helping Ben Munger '79
and Midland 102 in the garden; and Dr.
Elliott Schulman, who is Midland's doctor and
works with Donna in the Health Department.
Dr. Schulman (who replaces Dr. Karen
Sandquist who moved back to Colorado) was
previously the Santa Barbara County Public
Health Director.

Athletics:
Cross-Country: Next Wednesday,
September 23, Midland will host a
Friendly Santa Ynez Valley Meet with Dunn and
Santa Ynez Valley High School.
Girls Volleyball: The first games for
JV and
Varsity are at Oak Grove on Saturday,
September 19, at 2 and 3 PM, respectively.

Actual Midland Round-Up: Katie Isaacson and
Ben Munger '79 were successful in a roundup
today. They rode the Graham horses, Bear
and Marco, to search for a stray cow
(apparently on the lam for awhile) and
returned her to her pasture with the other
Poett cattle.

Midland's Fifth Annual Round-Up: All
current families are invited to join us for
this year's Round-Up on October 3-4. This is
our first event on campus where families have
a chance to participate in Midland activities. See the invitation and
schedule.
