is this weekend - we look
forward to seeing many of you!
Midland's theatrical production of Twelve
Angry Jurors, by Sherman L. Sergel,
and directed by Ian Cummings, will be
presented in the amphitheatre at 7:30 p.m. on
Saturday, April 25th, as part of
Parent/Alumni Weekend, and again at 8 p.m. on
Friday, May 1st. The performance will last
about 75 minutes. Audience members should
dress warmly for the outdoor venue.
The World Studies class, taught by Sarah
Campbell and Martina Svennungsen, has put
together a collection of memoir books. This
six-week long creative writing project had
students initially write a series of memoirs,
which reflected different moments and events
of their own lives. The culminating project
was then to compile the memoirs into some
type of artistic book that encapsulates the
vignettes within. Some of the books include
a wooden model of the Playhouse classroom,
mobile, Chinese firecrackers, merry-go-round,
wallet and newspaper, just to name a few.
Martina states, "I have done this project
many years now; I am thrilled to say this
particular class has produced some of the
most creative and thoughtful set of memoirs
to date. They can truly be proud of their
work." The memoirs will be on display
throughout Alumni/Parents Weekend in Main
House. If you're on campus, stop by and take
a look.
For the third year in a row, the sophomore
chemistry class presented at Santa
Barbara's Earth Day Festival.
Dodgers Game: On Sunday, April 19th, a
dozen Midland students accompanied the Ibarra
family (including Jose Juan's niece,
Claudia), Gillian Kinnear '04, and Sarah
Campbell to a baseball game at Dodgers
stadium. On the way there, the
group stopped
at Elysian Park to BBQ some hot dogs and play
a pick-up game of football. With temperatures
in the upper 90's, the group consumed a lot
of ice cream and sno-cones while the Dodgers
soundly defeated the Colorado Rockies 14-2.
Camping Trip: On Thursday, April 23rd,
several freshmen students went on
an overnight camping trip with Ben Munger
'79, Hayley Anson and Gillian Kinnear '04 to
Coldwater Camp on the Manzana Creek.
Coldwater is about 3 ½
miles downstream from Nira Campground (the
trailhead). This is in place of the
Experiential Week rain-out, and this is group
one of three groups to camp.
Santa Barbara Independent School Fair: On
Saturday, May 2nd, Midland will join 13 other
independent schools in the Santa Barbara area
for an Independent School Fair at the SB
Public Library's Faulkner Gallery from 11 AM
- 2 PM. Watch the video promo,
and read more
about the Fair.
Lacrosse:
Varsity Boys lost to Laguna Blanca last
Saturday. Both Varsity Boys and Girls play
against OVS at home tomorrow.
