In the photo above, Emma Munger '08
works on an alumni photo board. Emma spent
countless hours putting together photo albums
and has now updated class photo boards which
can be viewed in the Commons Room. Thanks to
Emma for her tireless effort and creativity; an
archivist extraordinaire!
Nora Livingston '07 is living at the Point
Reyes Bird Observatory's Palomarin Field
Station in Bolinas, CA, where she's a Banding
Intern. She
takes measurements like wing chord, weight,
feather molt and wear, and tries to age and sex
the bird using species specific criteria.
Nora says, "It is really fun and I get to
spend all day, every day outside (weather
permitting, of course!) When I am not
banding, part of my job is just
birding--counting birds and mapping where I
hear them sing. It is amazing that I get paid
to do it!"
Katharine O'Brien '01, after
graduating from Midland, helped develop and
worked in the writing room of ABC sitcom
"Carpoolers" in Los Angeles for two years
before returning to grad school. She's
currently in Columbia University's graduate
film program. "Doppelganger" is her first year
film in the program. Summary: When a father
pits his twin sons against each other while
teaching them how to box, one son must decide
how far he is willing to go to earn his
father's approval."Doppelganger" is starting
its rounds on the festival circuit and in
addition to being accepted into the Santa
Barbara Film Fest, it has also
been accepted
to Florida Film Festival, REEL Women
International Film Festival, Omaha Film
Festival, and First Glance Hollywood Film
Festival. Congratulations Katharine!

MLK and Presidential Inauguration |
|
|
|
On Tuesday, January 20th, the entire school
joined together to watch the historic
inauguration of Barack Obama and to honor Dr.
Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, which was on the
previous day.
Following President Obama's speech, we
listened to the wisdom of Babatunde Folayemi,
who also shared a video of the
30 human rights , followed by lunch
and an
exercise led by Silviano Valdez '09 and
Andrew Hurley '09, who attended a Student
Diversity Leadership Conference. Then each
class met as a group and answered questions
such as, "Where do I hope to be as an
individual a year from now? As an American in
the world? As a school, etc.?" which we will
revisit on next year's MLK day.
See more photos of the day...
