  • POETRY: Students in World Studies class contributed poems to the "Dia de Los Muertos" altar as part of an interdisciplinary project between the Spanish Department and World Studies.

  • Horse Camping: Faculty members Martina Svennungsen and Gillian Kinnear '04 took Sophia Rocco '09, Meghan Brown and Zoe Farley, both '11, to Montana de Oro for an overnight horse camping trip.


  • UPCOMING EVENTS:
    San Francisco's 7th Annual Green Festival: November 14-16, Midland will have a booth at the 7th Annual Green Festival in San Francisco.
    * Free tickets are available to the SF Green Festival for Midland community members who wish to attend. Please contact Karen Readey for tickets.

  • 2008 Green California Schools Summit: December 9-10, Midland will also have a booth at the 2008 Green California Schools Summit & Exposition in Anaheim, CA. Midland's booth will be in The Green Curriculum Showcase, which is a special, highlighted area on the floor with a focus on examples of green lesson plans, curriculum, supplemental materials, and much more.

  • School Fair in Portland, OR: Midland will be at the Western Boarding Schools Association (WBSA) School Fair in Portland, OR on Monday, November 17th.

  • Athletics:

    Midland's Cross Country teams competed at Thacher in League finals:
    Midland boys placed third in the league; and will go on to Southern States prelims on Saturday, Nov. 15. Top finishers: Patrick Holstein '09 (17:55), Evan Kidd '11 (18:03), Ross Kellogg '09 (19:09), Peter King '12 (19:38), Sheridan Stegner '09 (19:44) and Joey Hermosillo '09 (20:16). Congrats to Patrick, who was fifth in the league and to Evan, who was seventh!
    Girls did not manage to beat Dunn (but came close, losing by only 9 points to Dunn) and so placed 5th in the league. However, Mara Gabriel '11 set a Midland girls' record time on the Thacher course (25:16). Remaining girls' times: Rose Yates '11: 25:41, Blaze Elation '09 (25:56), and Pheobe Stokes '12 (26:22)--newest girls' runner, who had her personal record time on the tough, hilly course at Thacher--Callie Bryan '12 (28:24), and Jessica Plumbley '09 (31:05).

    Volleyball: Both the Varsity Girls and JV Girls won their final matches against Oak Grove on Wednesday. Varsity's record is 6-2, JV's record is 4-2.

  • Impromptu Concert: Midland senior Becca Towne arranged for Jared Mees and The Grown Children Play to perform a concert at Midland on Thursday, November 6th.


  • Mock Election: Along with over 200,000 high school students from across California, about half of Midland's student body participated last week in the MyVote mock election run by the California Secretary of State's office. Students had the opportunity to vote on the presidential race and on each of California's twelve ballot propositions. See the Mock Election Results.
