Encore!: Charitable IRA Legislation
Passed
The charitable IRA legislation is back for a
repeat performance-don't miss this
second-chance opportunity to make tax-free
gifts from your IRA! More...
Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of
2008:
While the primary purpose of the Emergency
Economic Stabilization Act of 2008 was to
authorize the government to purchase
problematic mortgaged-backed securities, the Act
also contains incentives for charitable
giving. From a gift planning perspective, the
most
important of these is an extension of the IRA
charitable rollover, which was one of the 2006
Pension Protection Act provisions that
expired at the end of 2007. Those provisions have
now been extended through the end of 2009. More...

Aaron Ableman '00 at Midland |
|
|
|
On Sunday, October 26th, upon our return from
Fall Break, Aaron Ableman '00, son of Health
Director Donna Williams, gave a presentation
to the Midland community.
His presentation was themed, "Why Art? Using
Creative Media for Social & Environmental
Justice." Using rap and spoken word
storytelling against a film and musical
background, Aaron reflected on his time at
Midland and his different educational
projects since then, and talked about our
interdependent relationship with the earth
and how the Arts can be used to both
entertain and teach. Aaron also performed on
the flute and other instruments and "looped"
these while performing spoken word.
Aaron performs musical theatre shows combined
with fun-filled workshops in K-12 schools.
From school garden demonstrations to
workshops on instrument making, his group's
tour, "All Aboard: Planet Express!" has a
dynamic and inspiring presentation for a
wide range of audiences. They will visit 20
schools (and other venues as well) down the
west coast of the US this October-November.
In the photo above, Aaron demonstrates his
talent to the Midland crowd.
