Mathematics as a Descriptive
Language: Students in Chris
Rea's Pre-calculus class have been tasked
with developing mathematical descriptions of
buildings on campus in the form of functions,
graphs and t-tables. The aim is to make
abstract ideas like "modeling polynomials and
functions" more concrete by continuously
relating these mathematical descriptions to
real things--like the volume of space
contained in a building.
