Welcome! The purpose of the Midland Minutes
is to connect with our extended family by
sharing brief summaries of events that
occurred during the week at Midland. We will
also be sending monthly e-newsletters with
more detailed information, articles and
photos - look for our first edition in a few
weeks. And remember to check our website for
updates: www.midland-school.org!
IMPORTANT: If you do not wish to receive ANY
email correspondence from Midland, then
please use the "SafeUnsubscribe" link at the
bottom of this email. If you wish to receive
ONLY the monthly e-newsletters but no weekly
updates, then please email Karen Readey
directly and indicate your preference.
Opening Days
went smoothly and classes are in full swing.
We're looking forward to an
incredible year!
School Prefects: Congratulations to
Frances King and Ross Kellogg, our 2008-09 School
Prefects!
On Monday, September 8th, following the first
day of classes, we had a "Field Day" in which the
entire school participated and teams competed
in activities including leap-frog, songs,
charades and tug-of-war.
Athletics: See Midland's sports section
online for a full schedule and updated
photographs. We have 52 runners in cross
country, 12 riders in the equestrian program,
and 20 volleyball players! Other options are
organic gardening (4 gardeners) and
maintenance (4 crew members who will be
refurbishing the Midland Museum).
On Tuesday, September 9th, faculty member
Phil Hasseljian offered a movie on the field
under the stars and over 30 students showed
up to see a "Midland-style drive-in movie."
Midland's Fourth Annual Round-Up: All
current families are invited to join us for
this year's Round-Up on October 4-5. This is
our first event on campus where families have
a chance to participate in Midland activities. See the online invitation.
Español Miércoles: Spanish Department
Chair José Juan Ibarra '87 designated
Wednesdays as "Spanish-Speaking Night"
during dinner in Stillman. The first
Wednesday evening resulted in a decent effort
by all. Vamos a practicar!
