 A Note from Anne

Hello!

I received a call from a prospective client out of the blue this week. I always love it when that happens. I have to give credit where credit is due, he responded to my advertisement placed in Travel Host magazine. This gentleman called (as many people do) not knowing what the true issue was, except that he felt like his time was out of control. He was convinced that he needed a crash course in time management and conveyed that he had a full-time job, four wonderful kids, a part-time business that was supplementing paying for the kid's college AND he traveled extensively. He wanted more time to spend with his kids.   He wanted ME to find the time for him.   I happily accepted the challenge!

Take a look at this week's article below to see how we can leverage our time more effectively.

All my best,
Anne

 Leverage Your Time and Talents

In the assessments I do with my clients, I always tell them that you need to take time to look at your situation -- to check in with yourself -- and find out "what's going on." When you know what's going on in your work (and personal life), you can take simple steps to get organized, take care of the stressful dilemmas and move forward.

For my client that was overextended with family and business obligations, we focused our attention on his part-time business goals. After an initial conversation, I found out that the problem related to his entrepreneurial endeavors was that he had a great business idea, actually had a product and sold some in the past; however, there were no processes in place to automate sales and production. A template for the product had been developed, but he kept reproducing it from scratch for each order. When you have a process in place, you can leverage your time -- saving you time and money.  In his case, the process was electronic and could be automated with a few simple tweaks, taking minimal time, and more importantly, saving time in the future.

On another front, my client needed to market his business, but with his day job and family commitments, he just didn't have time. I recommended that he hire a virtual assistant (VA) to help him. These professionals are a perfect addition to a budding business. As the VA model is that of a subcontractor, not an employee, my client didn't need to worry about payroll or benefits. A VA could work on an "as needed" basis without any minimum project obligations. Finding a VA that specialized in marketing turned out to be easier than expected. He knew a local person who was developing a business writing blogs and that was something he needed and wanted to do, but couldn't figure out how to fit in the 30 minutes a day. So the epiphany to leverage his time to delegate that task, and many more in the future was a huge time and money savings for him.

Coincidentally, another client I work with wastes a lot of time because they have not automated their bookkeeping processes. They type up invoices individually in a Word document, print them out on company letterhead, make copies and then scan the copy to a hard drive to create an electronic copy for each invoice. They were creating too many steps in the process. I helped to establish a new procedure where they could create a template online, email the invoice to their customer and easily save the original document on the hard drive. This is a lesson in using technology efficiently, and in this ever-changing technological world it is hard to keep up and everyone truly is in a different place.

Are you like many of my clients? You love your work and family, and are ignoring your inner voices that are struggling?  If you are having difficulty enjoying what you want out of your life and it's no longer feeling great, ask for help and you may be surprised as my clients are.  We can guide you to solutions to simplify your life at work and at home.
